Holiday Sidewinder opened Monday night at the Danforth Music Hall as strongly as the changing weather could have hoped for. She played with an enthusiasm that made you forget you were freezing from Canada’s sudden temperature drop and rain.

She wore an incredible pink outfit, and with each move, the color reflected off her body, matching perfectly with her fierce stage presence. Behind her sat a tiny palm tree wrapped in twinkling lights, amidst a blue atmospheric haze—fittingly reflecting the title of her album and giving the feeling that we were about to see something special.

She dominated the stage with every purposeful step and dramatic pose, as if she had been born to be there. Her voice flowed smoothly throughout the large room—sharp, playful, and full of character—and she had a way of connecting with the audience that made everyone feel included in the performance, no matter where they were sitting.

It was evident early on that the night ahead would be nothing short of extraordinary.

As soon as Sophie Ellis Bextor stepped onto the stage, it was clear she was a true star. Standing atop the raised steps beneath flashing lights and vibrant images, she looked every bit the embodiment of the legend she has become.

There was no doubt that Sophie could transform any concert into an experience simply by taking the stage. This was not merely a concert—it was a show, a celebration, and in many ways, a fashion presentation. With every spark of her outfit shining under the spotlight, the entire stage transformed into something akin to a movie screen.

Each song she performed was crafted not only to be heard but to be visually appreciated.

Another standout aspect of the evening was how she engaged with the audience. Between songs, she conversed with fans, creating a sense of shared experience rather than mere performance. She laughed, told stories, and seemed genuinely grateful for every ounce of energy the crowd gave her.

Her stage presence was nearly surreal. The ribbon twirling, the choreographed movements, and the way she commanded every inch of the stage were unlike anything I have ever witnessed at the Danforth Music Hall before Sophie.

She even treated us to a mini fashion runway display, with several outfit changes that added to the polished and professional nature of the performance and her craft.

Everyone in attendance knew what the evening was building toward—Murder on the Dancefloor. As she began the iconic song before the encore, the hall erupted into pure pandemonium. Fans were dancing, smiling, singing along to every lyric, and competing to be the loudest in the room.

At that point, the atmosphere became euphoric—like a farewell party for a dear old friend.

While Sophie was undoubtedly a star on stage, she remained humble. The way she carried herself was warm and welcoming, as though we were attending a casual gathering among friends during soundcheck—albeit with the production quality of a sold-out arena.

A phenomenal performance by a remarkable artist, and one of those evenings that reminded everyone in the room exactly how joyful it is to dance.
