Sting Transforms Uber Arena Into A Nostalgic Dreamscape With His Greatest Hits In Berlin

Gordon Matthew “Sting” Sumner played a sold-out show on his “Sting 3.0” tour at Berlin’s Uber Arena last Thursday. Around 13,000 people filled the massive venue to experience the 74-year-old musician live.
Without a support act, the concert kicked off with Message in a Bottle. The setlist mixed Sting’s solo work with The Police’s greatest hits, and each new number drew shouts of enthusiasm from the audience.

Accompanied only by guitarist Dominic Miller and drummer Chris Maas, Sting (wearing a simple black-and-white shirt and tight dark jeans) proved that he didn’t need a massive stage production to shine. The trio played the 1-hour 45-minute set in perfect harmony, using a large video wall backdrop to create a dreamlike atmosphere.
Although the arena was fully seated, most people stood, clapped, danced, and sang along. Sting visibly enjoyed the energy and added several call-and-response moments with the crowd, giving the show a jazzy feel. With his headset mic on for the entire set, the British artist switched between casually sitting on a stool and standing, accompanied by his beloved Fender P-Bass.

When warm yellow lights lit up the arena and the first notes of “Fields of Gold” filled the room, people grew sentimental. This mood continued when Dominic Miller impressed with a two-handed tapping technique and a dreamy melodic solo on Mad About You. Together with the echoing rhythmic clapping of the fans, the moment turned into a magical experience.
The 17-time Grammy Award winner proved that his extraordinary voice has lost none of its power. He held notes for what felt like an eternity and poured emotion into every line. During When We Dance, it was especially clear how deeply he immersed himself in the music.
Despite his focused performance, the English superstar never forgot the people who came to see him that night, dropping German phrases like “Dieser Moment, ich liebe es!” (I’m loving this moment!) here and there, and gesturing for fans to participate — making them feel like a part of the music.
Dreamy, mandala-like lights danced across the arena ceiling, and when Sting played Can’t Stand Losing You, the crowd rose enthusiastically to their feet. For “Shape of My Heart”, fans lit up the venue with their phone lamps, watching playing cards drift across the screen — which then shifted into a galaxy theme as Sting launched into Walking on the Moon.

For his last song, Sting played The Police’s biggest hit, Every Breath You Take, clearly still enjoying it — and so did the audience. For the encore, the rock legend performed an extended version of Roxanne and switched to an electric nylon-string guitar for “Fragile”. With the words “Berlin, dankeschön, vielen Dank, auf Wiedersehen,” he left the stage — but not the minds of the crowd, who continued singing his songs on their way home, many picking up his 2024 live album on vinyl or CD at the merch table.
