LA’s electroclash disruptors The Hellp – who The Face declared could be “the last cool band on earth” – release their highly-anticipated debut album, LL [untitled] via Anemoia Records/Atlantic Records.

Evoking the reckless abandon of the 00s, the duo’s sound is a headfirst collision between livewire indie-rock and the digital pop of an internet-raised generation. Noah Dillion and Chandler Ransom Lucy challenge our obsession with the past, the way we romanticise a misremembered world with a knowing sense of irony – and maybe a little sincerity, too.

The fourteen-track trip includes floor-filling singles ‘Stunn’, a whiplash-inducing ride of electronic euphoria, a distortion of their instincts as an indie-rock band filtered through a distinctly online lens, and ‘Caustic’ – which PAPER raved about in their exclusive premiere as “Hitting both nostalgic and futuristic elements… the duo has built a loyal fanbase of dance-driven delinquents who eat up their introspective and referential output”, with Notion praising the single as “redefining punk”.

LL is further fortified by the crowd-igniting ‘Colorado’, which underground tastemakers No Bells described as a “mechanical symphony; swarms of digitized chirps bleed onto drums working to slice your skull open, but at the same time it’s blissful and euphoric making you want to hug the person next to you as it all unfolds.” It arrived with a cinematic visual direction by Noah Dillon himself, whose work as a photographer and filmmaker has been captured by i-D as “leading a creative revolution.”

In addition, LL [untitled] includes the powerful ‘Go Somewhere’, which made its striking debut last month alongside a thought-provoking and controversial companion video which explores the consequences of hedonism . It premiered at New York City contemporary art gallery, The Hole, with the duo performing a DJ set as part of Affliction x Rogue’s New York Fashion Week rave at Brooklyn’s SILO. Please note: the ‘Go Somewhere’ video overtly deals with themes of self-harm, suicide, gun violence and death which some individuals may find distressing. Viewer discretion is advised.

The Hellp will mark the arrival of LL [untitled] with their biggest US headline tour thus far, getting underway with a sold-out two-night stand at San Francisco, CA’s Brick & Mortar Music Hall on October 30-31. Additional highlights include dates at such vaunted venues as New York, NY’s Irving Plaza (November 11), Nashville, TN’s The Basement (November 16), and Los Angeles, CA’s Fonda Theatre (November 21). Tickets for most dates are now sold out or extremely limited; please check local listings for remaining availability.
