Texas’ rapper Mario Herrera Jr., known for his stage name as Peso Peso, chatted with IMPRINT about his climbing experience in the music industry; his current inspirations, latest and future projects, his top songs of his upcoming album El Patrón, the message he shares with the ones that are going after their dreams and more.
He described growing up in Texas City, Galveston County as “regular small city sh*t” and told us that when he was 16 years old he started recording songs, but it was not until he turned 18 that he started taking music seriously in a professional sense. Even though he has always liked rapping, he confessed that he did not imagine he would make a living out of music. And he revealed that Meek Mill was his influential musician at his starts.
Formally known as King Pe$o he released his first single Gotta Have it on Youtube, in 2014. To date, the Mexican-American rapper has released many empowered tracks that have had a positive response on his audience such as: Hardest Ese Eva, Andale, Fasho, I Was Tripping, Splashin’ In Miami and Brad Pitt, amongst others. He has worked with great artists like, Paul Wall, Trippie Redd, Fenix Flexin, Sauce Walka, Sancho Saucy, and others. He said that working with them was an honor, since he had grown up listening to them and that was a “vibe thing”, as he really connected with all the artists he made music with.
In 2018 Sauce Walka signed Peso Peso to The Sauce Factory. Peso Peso defined it as a great cool experience that gave him the exposure needed to share his music, “turning nothing into something” he states.

He also talked about his inspiration behind his upcoming album, El Patrón, released on today, May 28th. The gifted rapper also said that his liberation from jail gave him the ammunition to come up different and produce the nine-track album, which he defined as real music based on his own living experiences that would help his listeners maneuver around similar situations. He stated that it is one of the most unique and diverse works that he has composed, with different music style and types of beats, and that is a real album, based on “real life sh*t” as he assured. Even though he found it really hard to pick two favorite songs from the album, he admitted that if he must choose, they would be: Andale and Flip Phone.
Peso Peso announced that next month he is going on tour to the following cities: Arizona, LA, San Antonio, Florida and more. And to encourage the ones that are struggling their way into the industry, the unmatched artist says: “keep going, keep turning up, don’t not get discourage (…) when you feel like it’s not working you just keep on grinding”.
