OMB Peezy burst onto the scene as a teenager, turning heads with his vicious flows and southern drawl. The Mobile, AL native prepares to start a new chapter of his career, aligning his Overkill Records with Sparta Distribution ahead of his upcoming album Save Yourself. The upcoming album showcases a veteran’s perspective on the rap game, incorporating lessons learned as he’s grown to become a respected presence in his native south and his adopted home of Northern California.
The 29-year-old rapper shares “Save Your Life,” the first single from the upcoming album, along with a dramatic music video directed by BCPBrandon. Built around an interpolation of “How To Save A Life,” the Diamond-selling single by The Fray, “Save Your Life” re-contextualizes the song’s expressions of regret and survivor’s guilt, flashing back to a pivotal night in Peezy’s life where he couldn’t be there for a close friend in his time of need. The song is a showcase of the artist’s expressive vocals, with lyrics that gain power from his soulful drawl and raw nerve emotion. Peezy takes off over softly plunked piano chords, his rapdfire flows providing the percussion on the drumless track. In the video, Peezy works through his regret, as an ex-lover gets into a car crash shortly after a fight, and Peezy wonders what could have been if their relationship had been stronger. Earlier this summer, OMB Peezy went with his family to see The Fray in concert, where he passionately sang along to “How To Save A Life” and expressed his longtime fandom to the band themselves backstage.
Repping both the West and Gulf Coasts, OMB Peezy has been one of the most unique voices in rap since emerging in 2017, mixing his Southern drawl and instinctive melodics with NorCal flows and slang. The 28-year-old artist has released ten solo and collaborative albums, including 2021’s Too Deep For Tears, home to the remix to his GOLD single “Big Homie,” and most recently, Drifting Away, which dropped earlier this year.
