Atlanta’s Reggae scene is a classic underground movement that pops its head up weekly highlighting different venues. Atlanta is quickly becoming one of the fastest growing Reggae scenes Nationwide. Tonight’s venue “The Masquerade” (formerly Dupre Excelsior Mill) now recently relocated in the heart of downtown Atlanta, Ga and a short walk from the State Capitol, Georgia State University and Centennial Olympic Park. It features three indoor venues with capacities ranging from 300 to 1000, appropriately named Heaven, Hell and Purgatory. On this night fans are excited to be entertained by featured acts Protoje and Lila!
I have to admit for those who haven’t yet gone to their new location it’s a bit tricky locating exactly where they are. However once I ran across their arrow signage near the upstairs area it conveniently directs you through a serious of arrows to their front door. As I walked in I immediately heard this melodic reggae voice crooning vibes so prominently I panicked thinking I’d arrived late and perhaps this was our featured guest.

As it turns out it was an opening act that goes by the name Yoshua-Odine aka Yoshua Vibes an absolutely Amazing talent who proved to be a perfect beginning to a Reggae night.

Following Yoshua was brotha “Dreggae” known as the Unsigned Legend by his loyal supporters. Now based out of Atlanta, Dreggae is originally from Montego Bay, Jamaica. He bears the pressure of being a spawn of reggae royalty, determined to mirror the legacy of his Grand Uncle, King Tubby. On this night he did the Legend proud.
But now things start to get serious and the loyal crowd knows who’s up next. Protoje and Lila Ike are about to take the stage one after another and by now there’s not a free space to be had. The twenty something fireball known to the music World as “Lila Ike” takes the stage and never gives it back. If she hadn’t already, she quickly owned the crowd and had them properly singing every song as if it were their own. I simply couldn’t get enough of “Lila”! Last but not least Protoje does what Protoje does….Rocks the crowd. The Grammy nominated 10 year vet creates magic wherever he goes and Atlanta was no exception.
