Thrash Titans Testament and Kreator Ignite Toronto’s History

On their co-headlining North American tour, Klash of the Titans, thrash metal legends Testament and Kreator made a highly anticipated stop at Toronto’s venue, History, for a night of metal mayhem.
The evening kicked off with a performance by death metal pioneers Possessed, whose influence on the genre is monumental. Formed in the early ’80s, Possessed broke ground with their 1985 album Seven Churches, widely regarded as the birthplace of death metal. The band, consisting of Jeff Becerra (vocals), Gabriel Franco and Daniel Gonzalez (guitar), Eddie Hsu (bass), and Mike Sus (drums), delivered a powerful set. Becerra, in particular, expressed deep gratitude to the fans, acknowledging their unwavering support over the years.

Next up were the German thrash titans Kreator, who took the stage amidst a spectacle of towering blow-ups of demons and witches. Formed in Essen, Germany, in 1982, Kreator’s lineup includes Mille Petrozza (vocals/guitar), Sven Teschke (guitar), Christian “Speesy” Giesler (bass), and Jürgen “Ventor” Reil (drums). Their 1986 album Pleasure to Kill remains a cornerstone of thrash metal, and they delivered fan favorites like “Pleasure to Kill” and “Betrayer,” alongside newer hits like “Hate Über Alles.” Kreator’s intense energy and fast, heavy set left the crowd in awe, with their signature ear-shattering thrash metal resonating throughout the venue.

As the lights dimmed, the anticipation in the room was palpable. Formed in 1983 in San Francisco, Testament is often considered part of the “Big Four” of thrash metal, alongside Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax. The current lineup—Chuck Billy (vocals), Eric Peterson and Alex Skolnick (guitar), Steve DiGiorgio (bass), and Gene Hoglan (drums)—played a powerful set, highlighting tracks from their classic albums The Legacy and The New Order. Testament’s blend of aggressive riffs and intricate solos kept the energy high, with each song driving the crowd into a frenzy.
