NEW ALBUM PANIC
TO BE RELEASED OCTOBER 12THVIA RCA RECORD
Nigerian born, Los Angeles-based artist TOBi shares a new track and short animated film for “Someone I Knew” via RCA Records. The latest offering comes two weeks ahead of his forthcoming album PANIC, set to be released October 12th – preorder HERE.
“Someone I Knew” is the introductory track to PANIC, forming the thematic backbone for the album. TOBi’s new single is accompanied by a short animated film created by BAFTA-nominated animator Renaldho Pelle and Los Angeles-based animators Studio Linguini. Backed by towering orchestral production, TOBi takes us through pivotal moments in his life’s journey, a constant tight rope balance between being an artist and a human being.
Last month, TOBi and his team launched an interactive digital universe and social fan club. The digital hub holds his catalog that will focus on building a community of core fans brought together by TOBi’s art, encouraged to stick around with an evolving slate of collectible content, new releases, and engagements from TOBi and his network of artists and friends. You can join now at PANIC.FM.
TOBi on his single “Someone I Knew”: “This might be one of the most important songs I’ve ever done. The history behind it, the depth of the stories. Even the accuracy of the sample 50 years after it was originally sung. I’ve always wanted to have my own version of a Florence Welch record. This is what music is about to me. To capture the feeling of timelessness that we wanted on PANIC. I wanted to make a song that would make anybody want to wake up and take agency over their life. That is the story of my journey not just as an artist but a human.“
Earlier this year, TOBi took home another Juno Award for Rap Album/EP of the Year for Shall I Continue? making this his second win following his 2020 album ELEMENTS Vol. 1 that won the 2021 Rap Recording of the Year. Last year, his elevated COLORS performance of “Flowers” was released and his song “Move” was featured on Netflix’s Do Revenge starring Camila Mendes (Riverdale) and Maya Hawke(Stranger Things). He also performed at Afrochella at the end of last year. Prior to this, “All Night Long,” “She Loves Me” and “Flowers,” he released his Alex Goose-produced single and video “Before We Panic” featuring Mikky Ekko (written forRihanna, A$AP Rocky, Drake), which was a prelude to his forthcoming album. The artistic visual was shot and directed by Dom McLennon (BROCKHAMPTON) and Jeremy Grier.
