Sam Nelson Harris Receives Berlin Music Awards 2022 Nomination For Best Performer In “My Own Monster” Music Video
Multi-platinum-selling rock band X Ambassadors were amongst the nominees for the 26th Webby Awards, which honors creativity on the internet, for their “My Own Monster” music video. The first single off their current album, The Beautiful Liar, the video was directed by longtime collaborator Daniel Iglesias Jr., and made in collaboration with the Paris VFX house Mathematic. The video for “My Own Monster” accentuates the song’s noir-pop element by placing Harris in a partially animated alternate universe.
Additionally, Sam Nelson Harris received a Berlin Music Awards 2022 nomination for Best Performer for his performance in the “My Own Monster” video. The Berlin Music Awards (BMVA) is an international festival that puts filmmakers and the art behind music videos in the spotlight.
In tribute to the scene from Anchors Aweigh in which Gene Kelly dances alongside Jerry Mouse from “Tom and Jerry,” the black-and-white visual finds Harris performing a choreographed routine with his own shadow, injecting a bit of classic-cartoon humor into the track’s chilling mystique. Harris worked with choreographer Genna Moroni training for a month before shooting the video.
“YESSS!!!!! We worked so hard on this video,” says Sam Nelson Harris. “Two years in the making, from conception, to execution, to release. It reignited my love for dance, fulfilled a life-long dream of mine to be in my own cartoon, and reminded me how important it is to stick to your vision no matter what. Thank you to everyone involved— for Daniel who listened to my insane ideas and said “hell yea I’ll make that with you”, to the team at Mathematic who brought the Shadow to life in a way I’d never thought possible, and to Genna who whipped my ass into shape on some Gene-Kelly shit. I’m SO proud of us— now let’s get these awards!!!”
Winners of the 26th Annual Webby Awards will be announced Tuesday, April 26. They will be celebrated at an in-person awards show on Monday, May 16, at Cipriani Wall Street. Fans will be able to watch special moments, and the show’s signature element, five-word speeches from all winners, starting at 7 p.m. ET at WebbyAwards.com and with #Webbys on Instagram and Twitter.
The Berlin Music Video Awards will take place June 8 – 11, 2022.
