ALT-POP DUO joan RELEASE NEW SINGLE “body language”
Beloved alt-pop duo joan—Alan Benjamin Thomas and Steven Rutherford—are back with their latest single, “body language,” a sleek and upbeat track that explores the euphoria of new connection. “It’s about meeting someone and wanting to learn everything about them—literally being a student of who they are. Learning their personality, their quirks, their ‘language,’” shares joan. The single lands alongside the announcement of their forthcoming album, this won’t last forever, due out later this year.
“This song started on Instagram — we found this artist named Shane Becker while doomscrolling one day. He’s a brilliant producer out of New Jersey who never releases any music—just 30-second clips on socials—but they are INSANE. We reached out to him that day to see if he’d want to work on something, and that idea became ‘body language.’” -joan
The release of “body language” also marks the start of joan’s support dates with Bloc Party. The tour kicks off May 30 at MGM Music Hall at Fenway and includes a highly anticipated stop at NYC’s Forest Hills Stadium for the 20 Years of Bloc Party: Silent Alarm & Greatest Hits celebration.
This follows joan’s feature on K-pop group EPEX’s single “so nice”, which they also wrote and produced. joan recently wrapped their spring headline run, “the close friends tour,” and released a series of singles including “face,” “magic,” “eyes,” and “heartbodymindsoul,” building anticipation for their next full project. With over 200 million global streams and more than one million monthly listeners, joan continues to evolve their sound, all while staying rooted in the emotional honesty and sonic nostalgia that fans have come to love.
From their debut EP portra to their full-length album superglue and their global touring history, including sold-out dates in Asia and support slots for COIN, The Aces, and MisterWives, joan are carving out a unique lane in the alternative pop scene.
