ATLANTA’S VIRAL REGIONAL MEXICAN BAND GRUPO RYE RELEASES DEBUT ALBUM CHILL GUYS
Grupo RYE, the viral band leading regional Mexican music out of Atlanta, releases their incendiary debut album Chill Guys via Lumbre Music. Positioned as one of música Mexicana’s newest thrilling artists, Grupo RYE has carved out their own path in the blooming genre with a unique style that draws from the exhilarating sounds the Atlanta that raised them – a stark contrast from many of the artists in regional now. In a moment that has gone wildly viral clocking in over 6 million views, the singer of the group, Ricardo Angel, performed in front of Druski on his beloved Coulda Been Home series. Most recently, the group has received early cosigns from some of the genre’s beloved artists such as Tito Double P and others.
Growing up between Mexico and Atlanta, the group is composed of Mexican-American and Mexican born musicians that are real life best friends. Grupo RYE is part of a new generation of artists growing up between the United States and Mexico, that remain vehemently and proudly connected to their Mexican roots and working class families, and who are not afraid to showcase the rich landscape influences they have from across both countries. Grupo RYE takes inspiration from greatest of Mexican music such as Vicente Fernandez and Ariel Camacho, but also from the 2000s punk rock scene such asBlink-182, and cult emo Mexican rock band PXNDX, and finally from the Atlanta rap and trap scene such as Future or Young Thug.
Fusing dynamic elements of reggae, tumbados, mariachi, and alternative sounds, Chill Guys provides an alternative flair and approach speaking to the group’s desire to represent the average person and the values and feelings they embody. The album touches on an array of themes including friendship, social and familial pressures, the pursuit of The American Dream with their music serving as a catalyst for expression and belonging. The album includes their groundbreaking song “Carnal”, which made the group go viral for delivering an electrifying rogue live rendition throughout the streets of Vegas earlier this year. Chill Guys provides a breath of fresh air to the current scene with a brilliant sonic palette and much needed sense of representation for a new generation.
