Charli XCX Debuts ‘The Girl, So Confusing’ Mesmerizing Version with Lorde
Following a daring campaign that saw Charli XCX create global disruptions with her pop-up ‘PARTYGIRL’ DJ sets, go viral with videos and single remixes featuring stars like Addison Rae, Robyn, Yung Lean, Julia Fox, Chloë Sevigny, Rachel Sennot, and Skream & Benga, and introduce a fresh shade of green to the cultural palette, her highly anticipated album was released last Friday to widespread praise.
In a series of impressive five-star reviews, The Guardian commended the “anthems that obliterate insecurity by pop’s most relatable superstar”, DORK hailed the album as an “unapologetic instant cult classic”, and DIY celebrated it as “a thrilling tribute to the diverse aspects of club culture that have shaped Charli’s identity over nearly two decades”. Additionally, the multitude of glowing reviews saw Rolling Stone laud BRAT as “a confessional LP that maintains its vibrancy” and Financial Times declare the record “one of her best”.
To mark the release of ‘BRAT’ on Friday, Charli XCX hosted her renowned ‘PARTYGIRL’ club night at London’s HERE at The Outernet, featuring back-to-back performances from Charli, A. G. Cook, George Daniel, and Finn Keane, and a surprise guest appearance from Shygirl.
The new album ‘BRAT’ includes the hit single ‘Von dutch’ – a bold, synth-heavy preview of the record – along with recent releases ‘Club classics’, ‘B2b’, and ‘360’. Charli has also released a series of viral remixes of the singles from ‘BRAT’, including ‘The von dutch remix with Addison Rae and A. G. Cook’ and ‘The 360 remix with Robyn and Yung Lean’.
In support of ‘BRAT’, Charli will be headlining her largest ever shows in arenas across the UK in November and December, and joining forces with longtime collaborator Troye Sivan for their eagerly awaited co-headline US arena tour ‘Charli XCX & Troye Sivan Present: Sweat’, which includes a newly announced second show at The Kia Forum in Los Angeles due to overwhelming demand.
Charli XCX hosted a significant Boiler Room event in Brooklyn, New York in February to kick off the ‘BRAT’ campaign with A. G. Cook, George Daniel, Finn Keane, and Doss. The event set a record for the most RSVPs to a Boiler Room event, with over 40k people registering to attend. With special guest appearances from Addison Rae and Julia Fox, the event has become one of the year’s viral highlights.
In addition to her new album, Charli has been involved in several film & TV projects following the success of her contribution to the Barbie soundtrack, ‘Speed Drive’, last year. She is co-executive producing the score for the A24 film ‘Mother Mary’ with Jack Antonoff and creating original music for Benito Skinner’s series ‘Overcompensating’ on Prime Video. Charli will also star in the Daniel Goldhaber remake of the 1978 cult horror film ‘Faces of Death’.
Charli XCX, the avant-pop and electronic music superstar, has become an iconic figure in the arts, having expanded the landscape of popular music over the last decade by effortlessly navigating both the underground and mainstream with her artistic contributions. Throughout her pioneering career, the multi-talented creative has received critical acclaim for her innovative style and entrepreneurial spirit, and her progressive approach has reshaped pop culture.
Her enduring impact was recognized last year when Charli was honored with the Visionary Award at the annual Ivor Novellos in London. She also received the Powerhouse Award at Billboard’s Women In Music ceremony in March and the ASCAP Global Impact Award last month.
