DJMEGAN23 SHARES NEW ALBUM MIRAGE – OUT NOW
On the heels of her performance set at the And Always Forever festival in Los Angeles, elusive online producer DJmegan23 has released her newest project Mirage – out now. At ten tracks, Mirage is a kaleidoscopic, fast-shifting record blending euphoric club textures with distorted nostalgia, stitched together in the signature quick-and-sick lo-fi style. The album features a stacked lineup of collaborators, featuring production from cranes, 7mental7, and tropes –– all equally rooted in the experimental corners of digital DIY culture –– along with ethereal vocals from Wisp, eranine, and Alexi Shell. Lauded by Pitchfork as “a wizard of waterlogged edits and songs sprinkled with fairy dust”, DJmegan23 has captured this ethos in its more realized version to date on Mirage.
DJmegan23 is a West LA–born multi-hypenate artist shaping one of the internet’s most distinctive underground sounds, blurring witch house, seapunk, hip hop, and euphoric DIY electronica into an unpolished world of her own with an almost mythic spontaneity. A longtime outlier in the online music ecosystem, she first surfaced through creating YouTube videogame CS:GO edits and type beats before pivoting toward a more instinctive approach, posting only what felt genuine, unfinished, and “fun-maxed,” a philosophy that underpins her entire catalog. She’s released work under six different aliases spanning since 2016 –– only until 2024 was it that she decisively devoted all her time towards advancing and elevating DJmegan23 exclusively. Her work has quietly threaded through internet culture, earning placements on Charli XCX’s ‘Morning After’ BBC Radio Mix and the Supreme store playlist, while drawing collaborators across the digital avant-garde including BBY Goyard, ilykimchi, Wisp, 4evr, cranes, Angel from Frost Children, and reverie. Despite this, she has remained reclusive, performing for the first time only recently at a sold out double-headline show with Bassvictim at El Cid in Los Angeles – an event that also marked her first ever face reveal. Rooted in a self-taught musical background and early influences from Yung Lean, Friendzone, and Aphex Twin, she has evolved from heavy sampling toward more refined, higher-effort production, while still embracing spontaneity and intimacy as her core tenets.
