Electrifying Jamie XX Collaborates with Robyn on Unstoppable New Single ‘Life’”

After the recent unveiling of his eagerly anticipated second album, “In Waves” (set to release on 20th September via Young), Jamie xx, the multifaceted London-based musician, DJ, and producer, introduces the latest single from the album. This new single, a joint effort with Robyn, marks her first significant release since “Honey” in 2018. The track, titled “Life”, emerges with a flourish of horns and filtered loops, serving as a nu-disco anthem featuring one of the most renowned vocalists of our time.

Jamie shares his thoughts on “Life”:

“This track came together rather quickly (at least for me) and I’ve been in love with it from the start. Hearing Robyn’s vocals for the first time at 6am, after wrapping up at Pacha in Ibiza, was a perfect moment. Working and spending time with Robyn over the years has always been a joy and a source of inspiration. I’m thrilled and grateful that she’s part of ‘In Waves’. “Life” joins the ranks of crossover dancefloor hits from “In Waves”. In April, Jamie unveiled “Baddy On The Floor”, a jubilant summer collaboration with Honey Dijon, followed by the announcement of the album in June with the energetic “Treat Each Other Right” single. This robust breakbeat anthem fused with futuristic soul was accompanied by a buzzworthy video from photographer and filmmaker Rosie Marks. The album, featuring 12 tracks and arriving 9 years after his GRAMMY, BRIT, Ivor Novello, and Mercury Music Prize-nominated debut album “In Colour”, captures the emotional highs and thrilling unpredictability of an almost mystical night out. It features a host of collaborators including The Avalanches, Kelsey Lu, John Glacier, Panda Bear, Oona Doherty, and his The xx bandmates Romy and Oliver Sim. The album, which took four years to create, is interspersed with periods of self-reflection, a global pandemic, a reemergence into the strobelight, and a newfound love of surfing-as-escapism. It’s set to surpass the acclaim of its globally celebrated predecessor.

In other news, Jamie has announced a second show in his hometown at London’s Alexandra Palace on 25th September, following the instant sell-out of the previously announced date on 26th September. Jamie recently gave fans a sneak peek of the album during his legendary residency, The Floor, held at South East London’s Venue MOT from 16-25 May. This series of intimate, 300-capacity events featured him performing at ten consecutive parties alongside a secret lineup of collaborators and friends, who were only revealed on the night of each event. The custom club space hosted a variety of artists including 2ManyDJs, Cooly G, Romy, Charli XCX, George Daniel, MJ Cole, Daphni, Nick Léon, DJ Python, Jockstrap, Doc Scott, John Glacier, and more for ten nights of exclusive new music, surprise appearances, unique back-to-back sets, and midweek and weekend revelry.
