FC Dallas Signs Goalkeeper Brooks Thompson on Loan from Lexington SC Through June 2026

The 23-year-old 2023 USL League One champion returns to MLS after several seasons in USL

 

FC Dallas has acquired goalkeeper Brooks Thompson on loan from USL Championship club Lexington SC through June 2026, the club announced today. The agreement includes a purchase option for a permanent transfer.

The 23-year-old American goalkeeper strengthens the FC Dallas roster ahead of the upcoming MLS competitions, bringing valuable professional experience from both the USL Championship and USL League One.

Brooks Thompson’s 2025 Season with Lexington SC

Thompson made 19 appearances across all competitions for Lexington SC during the 2025 season, recording nine clean sheets and establishing himself as one of the league’s consistent shot-stoppers. His performances helped solidify Lexington’s defensive unit in USL Championship play.

USL League One Success and Championship Experience

Before joining Lexington, Thompson gained extensive experience in USL League One. He made 35 combined appearances on loan with:

  • Spokane Velocity

  • North Carolina FC

During that span, Thompson advanced to back-to-back USL League One Finals and won the 2023 USL League One title with North Carolina FC, demonstrating his ability to perform under postseason pressure.

Development Path: From IMG Academy to Sporting Kansas City

Thompson began his development at IMG Academy before joining the Sporting Kansas City Academy in 2018.

In 2019, he made his professional debut with Sporting Kansas City II in the USL Championship while still an academy player. His rapid progression earned him his first professional contract with Sporting Kansas City in 2021.
