GRAMMY AWARD-WINNING, TANK AND THE BANGAS, RELEASE NEW SINGLE “SIMON SAYS”
GRAMMY Award-winning band Tank and the Bangas continue the momentum of their recent album The Last Balloon with the release of their new single, “Simon Says,” out now. The release coincides with the band’s return to the road, beginning the second leg of their U.S. tour tonight with a hometown performance at the Orpheum Theater in New Orleans.
On “Simon Says,” Tank and the Bangas settle into a smooth, jazz-leaning R&B groove, pairing Tank’s expressive vocals with the playful musicality that has long shaped the band’s sound. Anchored by a looping piano motif and prominent saxophone woven throughout, the track takes on a hypnotic feel.
The Last Balloon, released this past May via Verve Forecast, marked the final chapter of Tank and the Bangas’ “Balloon” trilogy following Green Balloon (2019) and Red Balloon (2022). Executive-produced by longtime collaborator Austin Brown and recorded primarily at The Complex Studios in Los Angeles, the album explores themes of frustration, resilience, and self-realization, balancing moments of vulnerability with the joyful energy at the heart of the band’s music. The project features collaborations with Lucky Daye, Ledisi, Dawn Richard, Austin Brown, and more. Listen HERE.
Following tonight’s hometown performance, Tank and the Bangas will continue across the U.S. with stops in Atlanta, Nashville, Chicago, Los Angeles, Austin, and more through November. The band will then take their live show overseas, with upcoming dates across Europe and Japan, including a performance at the recently opened Blue Note London, before wrapping the year at Blue Note Hawaii in December.
