Head Coach Matias Almeyda Discusses Upcoming Match vs. Seattle Sounders FC

The San Jose Earthquakes travel to take on Western Conference rivals Seattle Sounders FC on Wednesday, April 24 (7:30 p.m.) at CenturyLink Field. The match will be broadcast live on NBC Sports California, KNBR 1050 and 1370 KZSF.

Head coach Matias Almeyda discusses the team’s recent 4-1 victory over Sporting Kansas City, the upcoming match against Seattle Sounders FC, and the possibility of rotation in the squad.

On the squad rotation:

“Yeah, we’ll see tomorrow how they feel when they arrive. Really today and tomorrow are the days a player can be the most tired, so we’ll see. If we have to make changes because some players aren’t fully fit, we will give other players that have been waiting to play the opportunity.”

On the positives he took away from Saturday’s win:

“The attitude, the fact that everyone ran and fought together. Everyone took the right risks to play. They understood the game plan very well and they knew that in front of them was a team that punishes you if you make any mistake. That’s the level of concentration we hope they play all of the matches.”

On the focus the team has moving forward:

“If we sit back and compare ourselves to other teams, we would be making a big mistake. We have only won two games. We have lost more games than we have won. Last year the team only won four matches, so we know we have to work hard in every match against whatever team or player that comes our way. We respect all of our rivals, but we have to work hard and double down.”
