In celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, Hyundai Motor America announced a $25,000 donation to the Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL) and the Library Foundation of Los Angeles (LFLA) to support AAPI cultural education and community programming at the Los Angeles Central Library and a Hyundai-sponsored youth writing competition to be announced later in 2026.

Hyundai Motor America’s $25,000 donation supports AAPI Heritage Month programming at the Los Angeles Central Library during its centennial celebration and extends the initiative beyond May through a youth writing competition planned for later in 2026.

“Hyundai believes cultural institutions like the Los Angeles Public Library play a powerful role in bringing communities together,” said Erik Thomas, director of experiential and multicultural marketing, Hyundai Motor America. “Supporting AAPI Heritage Month programming and extending that support through a youth writing initiative later this year, reflects our commitment to fostering creativity, learning, and cultural appreciation in the communities we serve. These programs help inspire the next generation while celebrating the stories and voices that make Los Angeles so vibrant.”

“Hyundai is proud to celebrate the LA Central Library’s 100th anniversary and AAPI Heritage Month by supporting cultural education and community connection,” said Brandon Ramirez, director of corporate social responsibility, Hyundai Motor North America. “This $25,000 donation—and a writing competition later this year—reflect our commitment to the communities we call home.”

This contribution will be used to support the library’s AAPI Heritage Month celebration and cultural programming at the Central Library location, which coincides with the library’s centennial celebration. This initiative is part of Hyundai’s ongoing commitment to promoting inclusion and cultural awareness, further strengthening its ties with the Asian American community.

“Through AAPI Joy, the Los Angeles Public Library creates opportunities for communities to share traditions, celebrate cultural identity, and connect through storytelling and the arts,” said John F. Szabo, City Librarian. “We appreciate Hyundai’s continued support of this meaningful celebration, which helps us offer free cultural experiences that showcase the diversity and amplify the voices of the AAPI community.”

Celebrating AAPI Heritage Month All May Long
Throughout May, Hyundai will support a variety of AAPI-related events hosted at the Los Angeles Central Library and will actively promote the campaign on social media. Key events include:

  • Media Day (May 11, 2026): Held at the New Americans Center within the International Language Center, this event includes a donation ceremony featuring speeches from Hyundai’s Director of Experiential and Multicultural Marketing, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility and representatives from LAPL and LFLA, along with interviews with prominent AAPI media outlets.
  • AAPI Joy Event (May 16, 2026): A community celebration featuring talks and book signing events by Asian authors, as well as a slew of cultural activities and performances at the Central Library. Attendees of the author events will receive complimentary books sponsored by Hyundai. The series of events also include displays of traditional Korean clothing (hanbok), a lion dance performance, a mahjong workshop, and many more.
  • Digital & Social Media Promotion: Hyundai’s sponsorship and cultural efforts will be shared through LAPL’s social media channels and newsletters, highlighting Hyundai’s sustained support for the AAPI community. These messages will amplify the brand’s positive impact on local communities and its dedication to cultural diversity and inclusion.
