JONITA DELIVERS ENCHANTING SOLO DEBUT EP “LOVE LIKE THAT”
Boundary breaking South Asian pop artist Jonita returns to the spotlight with her debut EP, Love Like That, a project that further solidifies the New Dehli born, Toronto raised songstress as a star in her own right. With a tracklist that includes her debut solo single of the same name, a bold hyper pop release which has since amassed over 1 million views to date and recognition by Billboard Music Canada and CBC Music, Jonita re-introduces listeners to her world with a project that artfully recounts the literal meaning of love alongside a journey fueled by passion, culture and tradition.
Jonita, lauded as an icon and vocalist behind several notable Bollywood films, showcases her ability to stretch her influences into perfectly executed sonic moments that can engulf any listener. Blending Hindi, Urdu and English, “Love Like That” builds like a slow simmer, while “Tu Jaane”, “It Is What It Is (Madhaniya),” and “Always & Forever (Naal Ve)” are breathtaking in their intimacy and uplifting in their message. Of her debut release Jonita declares “I’m slowly filling out the big picture of who I am as an artist, song by song. The melodic hyper pop beat that is “Love Like That” produced by acclaimed Grammy nominated producer Ariza (Dua Lipa, Julia Michael) sees Jonita teaming up with globally recognized songwriter and composer Ali Sethi to deliver an explosive vocal showcase that sheds light on love that defies all odds. Penned alongside Julia Gartha, Toronto based Punjabi songwriter Harinder Singh, and Latin Grammy nominated producer Ariza, Jonita weds the traditional with contemporary in the opening ballad “It Is What It Is (Madhaniya),” reimagining the folk melody ‘Madhaniya’ to a modern afrobeat swagger. The official visual directed by Sachin S Pillai, beautifully depicts the bittersweet growing pains of a quintessential Indian bride as she prepares for marriage.
On “Tu Jaane” Jonita beautifully articulates the yearning for love and connection, baring her doubts and struggles with heartbreak through raw lyrics, she glides on the closing song “Always & Forever (Naal Ve),” an anthem that celebrates a love that lasts a lifetime. Having released Love Like That, Jonita embarks on a new musical era that firmly establishes her as a star who transcends borders and “a journey of self discovery that finally shows her coming into her own.”
