On the heels of the release of her newest mixtape sleep with a cane, British artist Klein has shared the accompanying music video for standout single “let it sink in” — out now. Interlacing themes from her previous informa video, including the recurring “visual sheet music” motif, the piece is firmly rooted in Klein’s creative signature. The video is dedicated to “the 2009–2013 era Black UK YouTube #tag videos”, a wave of early online content that became a foundational moment for Black British digital culture. Its release arrives ahead of the London screening of Kahlil Joseph’s BLKNWS: Terms & Conditions, for which Klein contributed the score.

The critically acclaimed film, released earlier this year at the NEXT section of Sundance Film Festival, blends archival and original material into a playful, deeply affecting exploration of Black life and culture across time and place. The collaboration further expands on the sonic and conceptual ideas she explores in her own work, her latest mixtape, sleep with a cane, filters UK rap through ambient production and folklore, exploring Klein‘s own lived experiences growing up in a culture of self-surveillance. Announced in August with the single and self-directed music video, “rich dad poor dad“, the mixtape was written, produced, and performed solely by Klein, with the exception of Ecco2k‘s feature on “young, black and free” and the Manchester duo Space Afrika‘s vocals on “trident”. Physical CDs and custom mouthguards designed by Klein are available on her website.

Exemplifying her experimental prowess and prolific output, Klein‘s new mixtape, sleep with a cane follows notable releases including thirteen sense (2025), marked (2024), touched by an angel (2023), and Harmattan (2021) which was released on the renowned classical label Pentatone and which was toured internationally in grand concert halls with opening sets from rapper Jawnino. Her hip hop resume includes “Ipari Park” with MIKE, the video for “Black Magic” by Rome Streetz, and scoring an episode of HBO’s “Random Acts of Flyness“. With no formal education in music, Klein is part of a lineage of radical outsider artists such as Daniel Johnston and Robert Johnson: self-taught figures whose work emerged not through sanctioned channels, but through sheer will, intuition, and urgency. She challenges dominant narratives of artistic legitimacy, authorship, and memory, offering a deeply subjective archive that resists institutional framing. Her singular takes on music, sculpture work, drawings, films and performance push the boundaries of sound and image, blurring the past, present and future.
