LANY RELEASES NEW ALBUM SOFT
Multi-platinum pop-rock band LANY released their new record Soft via Virgin Music. Soft marks LANY’s first album in two years and the band’s sixth studio album, exploring contrast both thematically and visually, pairing physical hardness with unguarded honesty to create a striking duality at the heart of the project. Alongside the release, the band also released the coinciding music video for the title-track, “Soft”.
Born from a life-altering experience, the record captures the band’s bold leap forward: confronting the temptation to grow calloused, choosing instead to stay tender at the core, while building a stronger exterior to protect that very vulnerability.
Regarding Soft, Klein said “In this world of sin and brokenness – adversity is constant, betrayal is rampant, and disappointment is inevitable. The easiest thing would be to let life and people harden you and turn you numb. But, then, what is the point of being alive if you can’t feel anything? For me, forgiveness was and is the only way forward.”
Produced entirely by Tommy King and co-written on every track by frontman Paul Klein, Soft showcases LANY at their most refined and intentional yet. Klein’s signature heartfelt lyricism, long the heartbeat of the band’s global appeal, is paired with a production style that is sharper, more pointed, and steeped in the textures of late 1990s and early 2000s R&B. Across ten tracks, the album reimagines LANY’sfamiliar warmth of piano ballads and bedroom pop sensibilities through a bolder, more expansive lens, offering a matured evolution that feels both nostalgic and forward looking.
