LEON BRIDGES ATTENDS 2024 MET GALA AS GUEST OF TIKTOK IN CUSTOM WILLY CHAVARRIA

Grammy Award winner recording artist and songwriter Leon Bridges attended the 2024 Costume Institute Benefit at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Leon was a guest of TikTok and joined TikTok’s 2024 Met Gala table alongside TikTok CEO Shou Chew and some of the biggest names in fashion, music, and film. TikTok is the lead sponsor of The Costume Institute’s 2024 spring exhibition, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion and this year’s Met Gala®.
Leon wore a custom look by Mexican American designer Willy Chavarria, with antique diamond, emerald and sapphire jewelry by Joseph Saidian & Sons, boots by Rocket Buster Boots and sunglasses from his Leon Bridges for VADA collaboration.
Says Leon, “I was honored when TikTok invited me to be their guest at The Met Gala. The theme this year is Garden of Time and as a Texan, I knew right away that I wanted to honor the Black Cowboys, who were incredible outdoorsmen, and I also wanted to find a way to acknowledge the greenery of Mexico City, where I have been recording my forthcoming fourth album. I dug into the history of the Black Cowboy in Texas before the Civil War through the turn of the twentieth century. 1 in 4 cowboys were Black and for too long their stories were untold. I wanted to work with Mexican American designer, Willy Chavarria, because many Black Cowboys in Texas learned a lot of their techniques from Mexican Cowboys and Mexico has been so important to me with my music. I met Willy through my friend YG and I knew he’d help me bring my vision to life. I love suits, and Willy created a beautiful suit with wide legged pants, which is a signature of mine. A special nod to the Black Cowboys are the custom double belts. I think my favorite detail are the addition of Bluebonnets, the state flower of Texas.”
