MERGUI RELEASES COVER OF “I CAN’T MAKE YOU LOVE ME”
Emerging pop singer Mergui returns with a striking new rendition of “I Can’t Make You Love Me”, the iconic heartbreak ballad made famous by Bonnie Raitt. Co-produced by Mergui and Jonathan Linav (BTS, Nessa Barrett), the track pairs stark piano with a gentle string section to create a haunting, minimalist backdrop. The vocals, which were recorded in Mergui’s bedroom 10 years ago when he was only 15, bring raw emotion to the forefront, showcasing his soft rasp, expressive depth, and effortless runs. The release is accompanied by an intimate live performance video, shot by Rio Noir (Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre) at AKA West Hollywood.
Mergui describes his connection to the song and why he kept the vocals he recorded at fifteen, saying, “Its honesty, the idea that you can’t force love no matter how much you want it, has always stayed with me. When I revisited the song, I realized nothing I recorded now could replace the magic in those original vocals, so I left them exactly as they were. Sharing it now feels like opening a small piece of my history and finally letting everyone in on something that has meant a lot to me for years.”
The single follows the release of “Nothing Gold Can Stay” with Zevia and “LIVING ROOM”, Mergui’s viral hit with collaborator maryjo. Since its debut, “LIVING ROOM” has gained significant traction, amassing over 10 million streams across platforms and inspiring more than 50,000 original TikTok videos. Additional recent highlights include “Risk It All”, featured on the EA Sports FC 26 official soundtrack, and “Purple Rose”, which appears in the latest installment of the cult video game The Sims. Mergui’s previous cover, “Say Something”, also made waves across streaming platforms, earning over 15 million streams across platforms.
