NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Riser House/Columbia Nashville recording artist Mitchell Tenpenny celebrated his major label debut album Telling All My Secrets last night in his hometown of Nashville. Tenpenny had much to celebrate with the sold-out City Winery crowd including both his new album and his first Mediabase/Country Aircheck No. 1 single “Drunk Me,” which The New York Times named one of the best songs of 2018.
UMG Nashville singer/songwriter Adam Hambrick kicked off the night to an energetic crowd.
Tenpenny, who CMT declared “a man of soul, swagger and stories of a Nashville gone by” played 10 songs off the forthcoming album the Tampa Bay Times said “can’t come out soon enough,” including the reflective “Walk Like Him” about his late father and fan favorite “Alcohol You Later,” which will be Tenpenny’s second single shipped to country radio in January.
The songwriter known for his wit and grit showed a softer side when he traded his electric guitar for a seat at the piano to perform his romantic track “Somebody’s Got Me,” and had everyone in the audience singing along to an upbeat cover of “Walking In Memphis.”
As the powerhouse vocalist rounded out his set with debut single “Drunk Me,” he said: “Of course, this is something I’ve always dreamed of, so I want to thank everyone involved at country radio, my label, my publishing company, my friends and my incredible songwriters Justin Wilson and Jordan Schmidt… And the fans, for making this our first gold record. This is just as much y’all’s as it is mine.” Tenpenny, Wilson and Schmidt will celebrate the success of “Drunk Me” with a No. 1 party in January.
“Thank you guys, from the bottom of my heart for changing my life this year. This is so incredible. Hometown, thank you!” and emotional Tenpenny said to the high-energy crowd as he left the stage.
A Nashville native, Tenpenny grew up under the watchful eye of Donna Hilley, the first female CEO of Sony/ATV Music Publishing in the very Music Row houses where he wrote more than 200 songs for Telling All My Secrets, 56 of which were presented to the label for consideration on the album.
