Platinum-selling, Grammy Award-winning Mura Masa today shares brand new double-single ‘Rise/Gimme’, available now on his own Pond Recordings. Mura Masa has also been confirmed to DJ the main room at Fabric tomorrow (October 13th) in celebration of the iconic club’s twenty-fourth birthday, before his Boiler Room Berlin on November 16th.

‘Rise / Gimme’ is an essential new drop from Mura Masa, showing off new sides and sounds from the groundbreaking artist-producer. ‘Rise’ sets a sample from singer-songwriter Nadiah Adu-Gyamfi (fka MOKO, and now releasing under her project NADIAH) over euphoric soulful house, whilst ‘Gimmie’ is a darker, largely instrumental club cut that Alex first previewed on his recent BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix. Together, ‘Rise/Gimme’ give you Mura Masa at his playful best, exploring all corners of electronic music as he continues to build his new, club-orientated era.

The last year or so has pulled Mura Masa into focus as one of this generation’s most influential figures. He’s produced a global hit with PinkPantheress and Ice Spice’s  ‘Boy’s a liar Pt. 2’, collaborated extensively across Shygirl’s Mercury Prize-nominated Nymph, remixed the likes of Georgia as well as soundtracking the zeitgeist with credits ranging from J Balvin and Eliza Rose to Gretel Hänlyn. It’s a juncture that’s also seen Mura Masa embark on a new chapter of his own, setting up his label and a creative hub and arts space – The Pond – in Peckham as a base for emerging artists.

Amidst such new beginnings, Mura Masa has also gone back to his roots. Following the thrillingly futuristic pop of third album demon time, his recent singles have connected the dots between those DIY Soundcloud-era drops with Alex’s own take on a new wave of dance music. ‘Whenever I Want’, for instance, was a Jersey Club inspired banger followed by shows at the likes of Coachella and Primavera, whilst ‘Drugs’ featured Peruvian artist and Young Affiliate Daniela Lalita in a nocturnal bumper with its tongue firmly in cheek. ‘Rise/Gimme’ suggests the night is, in fact, just beginning.

With a huge global audience – 2 billion streams, and headline shows from Alexandra Palace to Warehouse Project – Mura Masa’s purpose remains one constant in the young star’s trailblazing story thus far: to capture ‘that’ moment in pop culture, to make it Mura Masa’s own, and to push things forward.
