NATALIA LAFOURCADE Releases New Single “LA COMETIERRA”

Mexican icon Natalia Lafourcade has released the new single “La Cometierra,” a powerful and unexpected incursion into spoken word with hip hop influences. The song opens a new chapter for Natalia, co-produced by Cheche Alara and Michael Brauer.
“La Cometierra” tells the story of a young girl with the gift of finding the disappeared. The song is a social manifesto rooted in the land and ancestral origins; a necessary statement in the face of the violence that affects Mexican communities. “La Cometierra” is the title song of a new Amazon Prime Video original series, inspired by the acclaimed Dolores Reyes novel. The series tells the story of a group of Mexican children, living in a society filled with gender-based violence and disappearances, who discover one girl’s supernatural gift for healing and resistance.
“In ‘La Cometierra,‘ I wanted to create a bridge to the realities we live and witness today — realities that have, for many years, caused us deep frustration and ruptures in our social fabric,” Natalia shares. “I like that this story speaks to the strength of a power, a gift that, as the protagonist learns to embrace and integrate into her life, helps her assist many people. It speaks of values and inner strength — for caring for our communities and strengthening our tribe. Personally, I connect with these kinds of values: to plant our seed and tend to its roots. It’s an important message in these times — to be loyal to ourselves, to respect one another, and to respect life.”
“La Cometierra” is Natalia‘s first new music since being nominated for 9 Latin GRAMMYs 2025 including “Album of the Year,” “Song of the Year,” and “Record of the Year”. Natalia’s album Cancionera has also been nominated for “Best Singer-Songwriter Album” and “Best Engineered Album.” The title track “Cancionera” has been nominated for “Best Singer-Songwriter Song” and “Best Roots Song” in addition to a second “Best Roots Song” nomination for “Como Quisiera Quererte (Feat. El David Aguilar).” Additionally, Natalia’s Live at Carnegie Hall album has been nominated for “Best Traditional Pop Album.”
Natalia’s “Cancionera Tour” has now sold more than 112,000 tickets across North America. Two recent sold out ‘Cancionera’ shows at Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City featured surprise guests such as the album ‘s producer Adan Jodorowsky and close collaborator El David Aguilar. On October 7, Natalia will perform a third ‘Cancionera’ show at Auditorio Nacional.
