NESSA BARRETT DROPS OUTLAW LOVERS ANTHEM “TOO FAST TO LIVE, TOO YOUNG TO DIE”
Rising star Nessa Barrett shares “Too Fast To Live, Too Young To Die”, the darkly romantic first taste of her forthcoming third album, Tough Love, arriving September 25th on Warner Records. A cinematic swirl of moody rock and shadowy pop, the new single embodies the inherent danger of new love, and the thrill of throwing caution to the wind.
The album announce follows hot on the heels of Nessa’s acclaimed spring EP Jesus loves a primadonna and ahead of her arena dates opening the EU/UK leg and select U.S. dates of The Neighbourhood’s The Wourld Tour, set to launch August 24 at Stockholm’s Avicii Arena and wrap December 4 at the Kia Forum in Inglewood. As immersive as anything she’s released so far, “Too Fast To Live, Too Young To Die,” makes a powerful case for witnessing Nessa live. The song plays out like a short film, picking up as two young lovers prepare to hit the open road with a bag of cash and, it seems, a past they need to outrun. Amid mournful strings, urgent guitars, and steadily driving drums, she coos a hook for the ages: “Kiss me reckless, kiss me goodbye / If love’s a risk, I’m down to ride / I know it’s dangerous, but I don’t mind / Too fast to live, but we’re just too young to die.”
The accompanying music video follows Nessa and a mysterious love interest through snapshots of their outlaw romance, leaving viewers to wonder whether the pair are living the story or haunting it.
The new single was dreamt up by Nessa with her go-to collaborators, CJ Baran and Arthur Besna — the same tight-knit crew behind Jesus loves a primadonna, which arrived this past March. The EP paired a hypnotic mix of noirish rock, trip-hop textures, and haunting vocals fueled a trio of enthralling singles: “High On Heaven,” which likens love to a powerful drug; the jarringly vulnerable “Stay With Me”; and the eerie fantasy “Buffalo 66,” which arrived alongside a music video starring The Neighbourhood’s Jesse Rutherford. Nessa marked the EP’s release with an intimate tour series that racked up raves from the likes of Sweety High and spawned her Live From New York performance video series — watch “Special To You.” Nessa also sat down with WIRED, And The Writer Is…, and The Zach Sang Show to discuss this fruitful era of her career.
