Real Bad Man and Genevieve Artadi release new album
LA-based producer Real Bad Man and enigmatic vocalist/producer Genevieve Artadi release their collaborative album Everything Is Under Control via the producer’s own Real Bad Man Records. Preceded by two early standout singles in “Don’t Gotta Think About U” and “Little Claws”, the duo have come together to release a full-length together for the first time following their work together as part of the electronic trio Pollyn. Their reunion reveals an unsuspecting new branch of Real Bad Man’s production palette for those only familiar with his hip-hop collaborations. Here, he complements the misty quality of Artadi’s voice with a dense atmosphere of hearty drums and synths, rooted in electropop and new wave sounds.
“Genevieve is the person I’ve made the most music with in my life,” Adam (Real Bad Man) says. “Everything that was before Real Bad Man was with Genevieve. We hadn’t worked together since breaking up our band Pollyn, and it was amazing to go back to someone I have so much history with and do something completely new. It was like playing in a brand new playground that had never been opened to the public.
“Working with Adam is like how I imagine those old friends who play chess every day at the same spot feel,” Artadi says of her collaborative process with Adam. “It’s comfortable, fun. He does what he does really well and has a vision that suits a specific part of my artistic personality.”
Real Bad Man’s collaboration with Artadi is a radical shift in approach for the producer, whose previous full-length projects this year were rooted in the distinct strain of underground hip-hop that he’s amassed an extensive catalog in. Everything Is Under Control marks an entirely different, and unpredictable, sonic approach for the duo, embracing experimentation and synth-led electronica that’s reminiscent of Artadi’s work as part with Pollyn (her former trio with Adam/Real Bad Man) as well as current duo KNOWER with Louis Cole. Real Bad Man’s latest project extends his prolific run of collaborations this year, embarking in a new genre and sound entirely after releasing full-length projects with ZelooperZ (Dear Psilocybin), Boldly James (Conversational Pieces) and Willie The Kid (Midnight) in the first half of 2025.
Known for her complex, yet playful writing style, Genevieve Artadi has made a name for herself through four solo albums that stretch the gambit of jazz, dream pop and dance music. Following her 2015 debut solo album, her next three albums were released on iconic label Brainfeeder Records, including the most recent full-length Another Leaf, which was made as a composer-in-residence with Sweden’s Norrbotten Big Band. She’s also been an accomplished collaborator with her bands Expensive Magnets, Pollyn and KNOWER, and performing and recording with the likes of Thundercat and Snarky Puppy.
