easyclear releases the intimate yet sonically expansive debut EP Green

Simply titled Green, the EP is a vivid and introspective journey into the space between nature and the digital realm. Produced by Alex O’Donovan (Sea Girls, Kelly Lee Owens, Boston Manor) at Strongroom Studios, the project is a carefully crafted collection of songs that marry folk sensibilities with synth-driven textures. Deacon’s compositions, rooted in acoustic and classical guitar and inspired by the likes of Arthur Russell, Bert Jansch, and Elliott Smith, are transformed in the studio with lush layers of analog synths—evoking a warm, retro-futuristic atmosphere reminiscent of Djo and Westerman.

Across the new EP, easyclear presents a distinctive fusion of organic folk, tasteful electronics and indie influences—crafting a sound that defies easy categorization.

Led by the single Teammate, a paean to companionship, with its tight drum grooves, swirling synths and tape manipulated whirrings, each song on Green brings a modern edge to the traditional songwriting at its heart. Acoustic textures are met variously with punchy swells, heavily distorted electric guitars and deep grounding bass – providing a rich sonic backdrop for Deacon’s emotive vocals to shine.

In blending acoustic storytelling with electronic production, easyclear explores the tension between the natural and the synthetic.

Speaking about the EP, Deacon explains: “The worldbuilding is one of my favourite thing we achieved with Green. The process involved being very sensitive to the naked tunes I had written – finding ways for modern technology to inhabit and develop the songs in a manner that felt either harmonious, or excitingly discordant.

I came to see some of the sounds we generated as cartoonish characters – a ghostly cat solo at the end of The Pigeon, or the sweet birds on Interlude. This use of the  machine to create expressive and alive-feeling characters brought me a lot of joy. For me it lends the songs a distinct, gentle, haunting quality.”

The solo project of London-based artist Luke Deacon, easyclear has begun to make a name for his spirited sound. Having spent years performing in bands, including Young Khan (a precursor to Sea Girls), and the harmony-rich classic-pop outfit Kid Jupiter, Deacon has developed a distinct musical voice on the debut EP.

With early support across Dork, Earmilk, Notion, Ones To Watch, Amazing Radio and Atwood Magazine to name a few, the solo artist is building a sense of momentum and anticipation with the full EP release on the horizon. Delivering on the potential that early releases have shown, Green solidifies easyclear’s place as one to watch.
