Highly acclaimed British singer songwriter Sam Tompkins releases new single phones in heaven and announces his highly anticipated debut album ‘hi, my name is insecure’ via Republic Records, due to drop May 24th, 2024.

‘hi, my name is insecure’ is the sum of years of hard work from Sam as he builds his dream body of work, incorporating tracks which are already fan favourites alongside exciting new material. The album, out 24th May, also sees Sam team up with writer Pablo Bowman (Calvin Harris, James Arthur, Jonas Brothers) as well as writer and producer Danny Casio (Little Mix, Joy Crookes, Tom Grennan, Rudimental). The album will include hit tracks ‘someone else’, ‘time will fly’, ‘see me’, ‘lose it all’ and the new single ‘phones in heaven’, with the rest of the album yet to be announced. Sam’s 2022 EP ‘Who Do You Pray To?’ rocketed into the top 10 of the UK Album Chart and he has since been hailed by GQ as “one of the UK’s most exciting vocal talents of the moment” and CLASH as “the man of the moment”. His artistry and creative vision for himself continues to go from strength to strength.

The title of the album, ‘hi, my name is insecure’, speaks to Sam’s more introverted side as he explains, “I really like being in the company of my friends, but if you take me out of my comfort zone, and have me hang out at a party or an event or whatever, I just go inside myself and I find any excuse to get out of it.”

The new single released today, ‘phones in heaven’, is a brutally honest portrayal of the pain and confusion that comes with missing someone; having your time with them cut short and longing to hear from them again. Speaking on the single Sam says, “When I originally wrote ‘phones in heaven’, my real intention was to write a song for young people, especially men who have lost a friend early. As I’ve got older and meet more people, most people I know have at some point lost someone they loved prematurely through illness, suicide or other things; myself included. It’s coming from a place where you want to enjoy your life and move forward, but in a lot of cases because you didn’t get closure, you feel as though you can’t. You honestly think maybe just one call from that person would give you peace, but sadly life doesn’t always work like that. When I lost my dad to suicide in November of last year, this song felt even more powerful to me, so it felt like the most fitting way to come into 2024. To show others that they are not alone in their struggles and that we can all get through these things if we just open up conversation.”

Between 8-10pm tonight (February 1st), Sam’s BCC Radio 1 Future Pop session with Mollie King will air, including a performance of new single ‘phones in heaven’. Sam recently performed the new track to a sold out Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith, where he captivated the audience. The show took place just days after Sam’s dad passed away and he introduced the track to the packed crowd saying, in the past few weeks it’s taken on a new meaning about someone else. This one’s dedicated to my dad”. Sam described the performance as “biggest moment of my career, biggest moment of my life and I just feel so lucky”. The show kicked off a eight date tour, beginning in London and visiting Rotterdam, Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt and Dublin, with many shows sold out and more tickets added due to incredible demand. His sold out US/Canada tour last year included a stop at The Troubadour in LA with Justin and Hailey Bieber watching from backstage.

Each track of his is a symphony of feelings and most recent release ‘someone else’ perfectly encapsulates his ability to connect with people. He delivered yet again on it, placing his raspy, emotive vocals front and centre as he expressed the trials and tribulations of heartbreak. Sam’s raw vocal talent truly stirs the soul and carries the listener through the stories of each song, from gentle whispers to tempests of emotion fundamental to his distinctive sound. That sound is encapsulated in ‘lose it all’, which connects deeply with his fans; his live rendition on YouTube currently sits at 2.1m views and his performance of the tune on IG is his most viewed social post to date (11m views). His candid lyrics on all aspects of life connect directly with fans and his ability to delve into topics difficult to put into words, make them feel truly heard and understood. The dedication and love from his fans is evident in the success of previous single ‘time will fly’ which garnered over 2.3 million Spotify streams and over 500K YouTube views on the music video.

Throughout April, Sam will support Australian artist Kid Laroi on his UK & European tour. The shows, running from 4th – 27th April, include a huge show at London’s Alexandra Palace (16th April). Tickets can be found HERE.

Since starting his musical journey at 16 years old busking on the streets of Brighton, Sam has gone on to sell out shows around the world and amass a dedicated and enraptured fanbase, cementing his reputation as one of the fastest rising British male artists. He’s cultivated an incredible online community for millions to share their love of music and has received praise from high profile artists including Drake, Fred again.., Justin Bieber, RAYE, Sam Smith, Krept & Konan and more.
