SCARLIP’S “RUNAWAY LOVE FREESTYLE” AVAILABLE NOW! PRE-ORDER DEBUT PROJECT SCARRED B4 FAME OUT JUNE 25

NYC star ScarLip has crash landed into Summer ‘25 and released her brand-new song, “Runaway Love Freestyle”, recorded over the Polow Da Don-produced instrumental for Ludacris’s original “Runaway Love” ft Mary J. Blige.
The new track is ScarLip’s first new song of the year and signifies a ramp-up for ScarLip’s 2025 campaign, which is set to carry the momentum of a breakout year in 2024 into the release of her debut project “Scarred B4 Fame” on June 20th\
“Runaway Love” carries on the ScarLip tradition, as the insightful Bronx artist reprises the original song’s theme of highlighting afflicted young people’s need for escapism. Reminiscent of ScarLip’s humble beginnings—her passionate spoken word pieces were what got her noticed by industry stars—” Runaway Love” freestyle packs everything fans have come to expect from ScarLip. Raw honesty, vulnerability, and a sharp awareness of her surroundings. When asked about inspiration to use this track ScarLip tells us “The original song hit different. It felt like Mary was talking straight to me — like she knew exactly what I was going through.”
Apropos of this moment is the inclusion of R&B legend Mary J. Blige’s original vocals on ScarLip’s version of “Runaway Love.” The 9x-GRAMMY® winner and 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, who paces the original “Runaway Love” with her memorable chorus, originated from the same Bronx streets as ScarLip. Similar to ScarLip, Mary built her career with her generational catharsis as its foundation.
ScarLip has been, to put it simply, locked in, and she’s ready to flaunt the fruits of her labor. 2024, the most important year of her career, introduced new heights to the Bronx native, including the inclusion of her song, “Mike T,” on the official soundtrack to the Will Smith and Martin Lawrence blockbuster movie, Bad Boys: Ride or Die. “Like, that’s how crazy life is, right?. That’s an important movie. Like, that’s ‘Bad Boys’,” ScarLip says of her achievement.

XXL also placed the “This is New York” rapper on the cover of its 2024 Freshman issue, a time-tested predictor of Hip Hop’s next-gen stars. This followed a slew of marquee appearances that catapulted ScarLip into stardom, including the BET Awards and being Snoop Dogg’s guest at the official Hip Hop 50 concert at Yankee Stadium.
The stage is set and ScarLip is prepared to deliver on her potential, and she’s got NYC on her back. “It feels good to be on that list of rappers that makes my city look good too. This is what you get from the city, and I’m keeping that sound. That New York sound.”
