SPILL TAB DEBUT ALBUM ANGIE OUT NOW ON BECAUSE MUSIC

French-Korean songwriter and producer spill tab has released her remarkable debut album ANGIE – 12 tracks of inhibited creativity that fizz with an infectious enthusiasm and intricate musicianship – via Because Music. ANGIE captures spill tab’s (aka Claire Chicha) genre-blurring sound at its most expansive and expressive. Nowhere is this more evident than on the album’s focus track, “Athlete” – a dreamy, delicate, textured production laced with whisper-soft vocals about “smashing in the back of a car, being someone’s fantastical reality, doing sext shit, and having fun.” The song is accompanied by an official music video, directed by frequent collaborator Sweetiepie.

Speaking about the record, which was made with her LA-based community of collaborators like producer David Marinelli, Solomonophic, Wyatt and Austin and John DeBold, spill tab shares “It became this beautiful experience of only following ideas that I really believed in and exploring all the musical avenues I hadn’t before. I’ve never been more excited about the songs on ANGIE, and I’ve never felt like a project is more mine.” The album’s recent singles evince Chicha’s diverse sonic palette – from the glitchy rush of opener “PINK LEMONADE” and the eclectic, hyperpop flair of “De Guerre,” to the earthy groove of “Assis,” the vintage synth-soaked title track “Angie,” and her most recent release, “Hold Me,” a stripped-back, introspective ballad.

Raised by a French Algerian composer father and a Korean pianist mother, Chicha spent her early years immersed in music at her parents’ post-production studio, absorbing jazz, classical, and other diverse influences. Following a childhood spent between LA, Thailand, and Paris, where she picked up guitar and soaked in a variety of musical traditions, Chicha developed a distinctive sound blending raw-edged guitar confessionals with anthemic pop hooks.

Since releasing her infectious debut single ‘“Decompose,” Chicha has evolved across three EPs: 2020’s synth-pop influenced Oatmilk, 2021’s playful, uptempo Bonnie, featuring Gus Dapperton and Tommy Genesis, and 2023’s sonically-intricate Klepto, which gleefully meanders from the Hiatus Kaiyote-influenced jazz freakouts of “CRÈME BRÛLÉE!” to the guitar-chugging thump of “Splinter.” Chicha’s explosively energetic live presence earned slots opening the North American leg of popstar Sabrina Carpenter’s tour, as well as an Australian run with alt-rock trio Wallows.

spill tab will be heading out on her own summer headline tour with shows across North America and the UK.
