SURF GANG & Valee share new project ‘Grey Sky London’
SURF GANG kingpin evilgiane has joined forces with Chicago rapper Valee for new project Grey Sky London––out now. The tape follows lead single “WHY NOT”, which was lauded by Pitchfork, The FACE, Stereogum, UPROXX, and more. The project began bubbling when Valee and evilgiane linked together in Chicago at Valee‘s home studio and features additional production from Los Angeles native and Surf Gang co-founder Eera, who produced two tracks on Grey Sky London. About the project Valee says:
“Most producers just send beats now so it was dope to actually sit down with evilgiane and work on this project together. It’s a whole new sound and style for me.”
Grey Sky London arrives on the heels of a string of electric evilgiane collaborations, including Spanish rapper Rojuu for “FAMILY MART”, Houston rapper Guapo for their single “HALLOWEEN FREESTYLE”, alt-pop crooner Nourished by Time on “INSTANT DEATH” (feat. Goner), link-ups with sniper2004 and SADPONY on “i don’t wanna be a rapper”, and Babyfather on “bluey vuitton”. Recent months have also seen the SURF GANG founding member release Slimesito collab project EVILSLIME and January mixtape #HEAVENSGATE VOL. 1, the latter of which boasted features from the likes of Rx Papi, 454, Bear1Boss, Nettspend, and FLEE and was instantly met with praise from The FADER, Stereogum, Hypebeast, and Pitchfork.
Following a 2024 GRAMMY “Best Rap Performance” nomination for his work onKendrick Lamar & Baby Keem’s “The Hillbillies” as well as recent contributions to SURF GANG collab projects CHURCH & SURF with Durkalini, JACK & THE BEANSTALK with LUCY (Cooper B. Handy), and Bbyafricka on HARD COPY, evilgiane’s latest release showcases why The FADER hailed the producer for his “woozy beats (part New York drill, part digital cloud rap) [that] have served as a springboard for inspired singles by Kendrick Lamar (‘The Hillbillies’ with Baby Keem), Earl Sweatshirt(‘Making the Band (Danity Kane)‘), and Playboi Carti (‘Sights’ with A$AP Rocky).”

Alongside working with some of rap’s biggest names, his other recent production credits include Nettspend‘s “Beach leak”, Maxo Kream’s“Bang The Bus”, collabs with 454, Matt Ox, Serane, and John Glacier, as well as “Luv The Tour” off the deluxe version of Veeze’s critically-acclaimed debut album Ganger. Additionally, evilgiane recently made waves with his NYC Boiler Room performance with Snow Strippers and Eera this summer. Still riding the momentum from a breakout year that saw him land two Top 20 records in Pitchfork’s ‘Best Songs of 2023’, evilgiane is continuing his ascent into the upper-echelon of producers — and, in the words of Stereogum, “changing the sound of hip-hop” in the process.
