Ammi Boyz return with new video single “Riverside Apt
South-East London’s best-kept secret Ammi Boyz return with “Riverside Apt”, out now with a video via Surf Gang Records. The single marks the first release from the duo since P From Lee and NigzTG’s feature on evilgiane’s #HEAVENSGATE VOL .2 earlier this summer. Omari Lyseight (WTFOmari!), who has been on the boards since the group’s first records, built the track with Cleto Marez (MIKE, Pink Siifu, Goya Gumbani), and P From Lee and Nigz TG ride it with the lyrical aptitude that made their name: “post up innna trap like Postman Pat with a couple of packs.” The song runs from SE12 to the club Lost and makes a riverside view the measure of how far they have come. In the words of Ammi Boyz themselves: “The river can be the only getaway, the only tranquillity in sight. So we’re prepared to do what’s necessary to continue living this way. We came from Deep South; having city riverside apartments now is quite literally a physical and geographical representation of “coming a long way”. The video shows Ammi Boyz trading verses on the dimly lit streets of Paris, with quick shots flashed of an equally dark river. The two premiered the cut live on August 31st at Earl Sweatshirt and MIKE‘s sold-out Home On The Range show at EartH in Hackney, alongside Harrison (SURF GANG). “Riverside Apt” is their first single in eight years, and more coming soon.
Ammi Boyz have been building toward this moment since last summer, when their Instagram woke up with a Paris pop-up at Fête de la Musique. In March they sat down with Clash to confirm the revival. The Surf Gang connection runs further back than that: founding-circle member D1 moved to New York at sixteen and met evilgiane through skateboarding, a friendship that surfaced in June when P From Lee and Nigz TG took their first international feature on “GMT” from #HEAVENSGATE VOL. 2, a tracklist that also carried Cash Cobain, Nourished by Time, Rico Nasty, xaviersobased, YT and RealYungPhil. On July 20th The FADER ran Omari Lyseight in its Opener column, days before he released Digital through Surf Gang Records, his own project with Earl Sweatshirt, MIKE, 454, Jadasea and Jawnino on it. The group has teased more unreleased music since, with “Riverside Apt” opening the run.
