This week Stefflon Don announced she will be honored at the 2018 ASCAP London Awards for a Vanguard Award and also nominated for a Q Award in the category for Best Live Act.
The ASCAP Vanguard Award is an annual award presented by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), in recognition of “the impact of new and developing musical genres, which help shape the future of music.” Previous honors have gone to Migos, Diplo, Beastie Boys, and more. The Q Awards are the UK’s annual music awards run by the music magazine Q. Since they began in 1990, the Q Awards have become one of Britain’s biggest and most publicized music awards. Past Live Act winners have included U2, Green Day, and more.
Last year, Steff went from strength-to-strength to cement her reputation as London’s most formidable young talent. From winning Best Female at the MOBO Awards to Best Newcomer at this year’s NME Awards, the East London star continued to defy expectations. Additionally, Stefflon Don made BBC’s Sound Of 2017 list, i-D Class of 2017, became Apple Music’s Up Next Artist in January 2018, was nominated for BET’s Best International Act Award, and was nominated for a Brit’s Critics Choice award.
Since being announced as the first ever British female entrant in XXL’s annual ‘Freshman Class’and releasing the summer smash ‘Calypso’ with Luis Fonsi (which has already seen the video top over 140m plays alone), Steff has been shut away creating the incredible piece of work that is ‘Secure’ – her second mixtape to be released via her own label 54 London.
ASCAP Chairman of the Board and President Paul Williams said in a statement, “Stefflon Don (is a) firebrand paving the way for the British music scene.”
The ASCAP London Awards 2018 ceremony is set to take place in London on October 23. The Q Awards take place at London’s Roundhouse on Wednesday October 17.
