Chappell Roan secures her first UK Number 1 with Pink Pony Club

The UK is turning into the Pink Pony Club, as Chappell Roan secures her first-ever UK Number 1 single.

Pink Pony Club tops the Official Singles Chart marking yet another victory in a year of incredible achievements for Chappell, following her meteoric rise to pop superstardom.

Accepting her Official Singles Chart Number 1 Award, Chappell Roan told Official Charts: The UK has truly been there for me since day one and this is such an incredible honor!!!

This moment has been a long time coming for the American star; she previously reached Number 2 last year with breakout sapphic anthem Good Luck, Babe!, which has now sold 1,479,167 copies in the UK and is 2x Platinum-certified, and Number 4 with the kinetic HOT TO GO!. Meanwhile, her debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess has now surpassed 374,206 UK sales and is officially Platinum-certified.

Pink Pony Club – the epic synth-pop banger written about Chappell’s first visit to a West Hollywood gay club – was originally released nearly five years ago and signalled a turning point in her choosing to fully embrace her queer identity in her music. Now, after years of cult fandom and unwavering support from the queer community and beyond, the track has found new life as a mainstream smash, amassing 658,424 UK sales and earning Platinum certification.

This triumph follows an extraordinary awards season for Chappell. Last weekend, she took home two BRIT Awards for International Artist of the Year and Best International Song, the latter awarded to Good Luck, Babe!. During her acceptance speech for International Artist of the Year, she made a powerful dedication to “trans artists, drag queens, fashion students, sex workers, and Sinead O’Connor,” further cementing her reputation as a fearless and outspoken voice in the industry.

Adding to her trophy collection, Chappell was also honoured with the Best New Artist award at this year’s Grammy Awards, solidifying her as one of the most exciting new names in music today.

Up next, Chappell is set to release her highly anticipated new single, The Giver, on March 14th. Speaking about the track on Instagram this week, she shared: I have such a special place in my heart for country music. I grew up listening to it every morning and afternoon on my school bus and had it swirling around me at bonfires, grocery stores, and karaoke bars. Many people have asked if this means I’m making a country album??? My answer is… hmm right now I’m just making songs that make me feel happy and fun and The Giver is my take on cuntry xoxo may the classic country divas lead their genre, I am just here to twirl and do a little gay yodel for y’all.”
