Dynamic Artist Mach-Hommy Captivates Live From Haiti in Cinematic “SUR LE PONT d’AVIGNON” Video

Mach-Hommy, the artist behind the highly praised album #RICHAXXHAITIAN, continues to make waves with the release of the video for one of the album’s standout tracks, “SUR LE PONT d’AVIGNON (Reparation #1)” featuring Sam Gendel. The video is set to premiere this evening at 7pm EST, coinciding with the launch of a limited-edition collection of themed merchandise. Directed by Lasheef Ecks, the video was shot at Haiti’s National Landmark, La Citadelle Laferrière, a 19th-century fortress in Milot, in the country’s northern region. Constructed by Haiti’s first president and only king, Henri Christophe, in 1820 and recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, La Citadelle stands as a testament to engineering, history, and resilience. The video offers breathtaking aerial shots and panoramic views as Mach performs atop the fortress’s ancient architecture. “This is an exact visual representation of how I felt when I wrote this song and how I feel every time I hear this song,” Mach shares.

Referring to the song’s parenthetical title, Mach comments, “They’ve been rocking us to sleep with that shit for so long. My turn now.” Despite the song incorporating the well-known 15th-century French nursery rhyme, “SUR LE PONT d’AVIGNON” is far from a lullaby. The track sees Mach effortlessly transitioning between English rhymes, French melodies, and Arabic prayers, all set to the smooth production of Grammy-winning producer Conductor Williams. The track also showcases the emerging and flourishing saxophone skills of the elusive composer, Sam Gendel.

In conjunction with the video release, Mach will reveal a limited-edition merchandise capsule inspired by #RICHAXXHAITIAN. The collection includes designer t-shirts and water bottles adorned with Mach’s proprietary camouflage. Mach himself designed the t-shirts, which feature quotes related to Haiti, inspired by the album. The limited-edition, handmade, designer vinyl pressings offer unique options such as sand-filled and money-filled. The new video for “SUR LE PONT d’AVIGNON” is the latest visual from #RICHAXXHAITIAN, the fourth album in a series that explores Mach-Hommy’s relationship with his homeland, following 2016’s H.B.O. (Haitian Body Odor), and his two acclaimed 2021 albums, Pray For Haiti and Balens Cho (Hot Candles). #RICHAXXHAITIAN serves as a musical remedy for his homeland amidst poverty and political turmoil, countering the public’s negative perceptions of Haiti by highlighting the greatness and prosperity of the country’s diaspora. Throughout the album, Mach-Hommy emphasizes the country’s potential, strategizing ways that his troubled homeland could become a beacon of Black cultural and economic excellence.

The capsule is available for purchase today (6/14) at billy-z.com at 7pm EST.

#RICHAXXHAITIAN received widespread acclaim upon its release, earning coverage from outlets such as Pitchfork, HYPEBEAST, NPR, CLASH, and many others. The album features a mix of new and familiar collaborators to help enhance Mach-Hommy’s sound, including Black Thought, Roc Marciano, Tha God Fahim, Your Old Droog, Drea D’Nur, and Big Cheeko, plus producers like Grammy-winner Conductor Williams, Grammy-nominated producer Quelle Chris, longtime associate Sadhu Gold, and others.

With a vision to transform our modern dystopia into a utopia using only his rhymes and sheer determination, Mach-Hommy invites us all, from his most devoted supporters to his newest fans, to envision a brand new world. With #RICHAXXHAITIAN, that seemingly impossible dream inches ever closer.

“I’ve always wanted to represent for Haiti and the cultural and intellectual richness we’ve contributed to the world,” says Mach-Hommy. “From our musical styles like kontradans that have influenced world music, our natural resources which provide so much raw material for so many important advancements in technology, our thinkers that pioneered philosophical movements and Black pride, and our spiritual leaders who kept the religious traditions of Guinea alive and intact, the religious traditions of Ayiti….”
