Empowering Michael Jordan and Jordan Brand Invest Over $8 Million in Transformative Black Community Commitment Grants
Michael Jordan and the Jordan Brand are unveiling grants exceeding $8 million to 37 organizations as part of their Black Community Commitment (BCC). Established in 2020, the Jordan Black Community Commitment is a joint initiative of Michael Jordan and Jordan Brand, pledging $100 million over 10 years. The initiative is dedicated to driving sustainable change, combating systemic racism, and fostering more equitable futures for Black Americans.
The latest grants, aligned with the BCC’s four fundamental pillars (education, economic justice, narrative change, and social justice), have been awarded to 14 institutional nonprofits and 23 grassroots organizations nationwide. These organizations are spearheading solutions in their cities through the open-call Community Grants Program, which is rooted in the belief that local decisions can catalyze systemic change.
Sarah Mensah, President of Jordan Brand, states, “The Jordan Brand has a unique and distinct role in perpetuating the elevation of Black culture and communities. That’s why we are deeply committed to closely collaborating with organizations that are fearlessly and purposefully leading the change towards a more equitable future for Black Americans. We consider it a privilege to support these organizations in their commendable efforts.”
To qualify for a one-year grant through the Community Grants Program, grassroots 501©(3) organizations must operate on a budget of less than $3 million and align with one of the BCC’s four key pillars. The Jordan Community Grants were first distributed in 2021, and the most recent recipients form the fourth cohort of the program.
