JEREMY ZUCKER & CARLIE HANSON AT THE VELVET UNDERGROUND

On September 26th, 2018 Jeremy Zucker and Carlie Hanson made their mark at The Velvet Underground. This all ages concert created a lineup that went as far as my eye could see down Queen Street of Toronto. The fans standing in line were excited before even entering; I stood with a small group for a while who definitely provided a few good laughs and attracted the attention of dogs being walked by. Can never go wrong with some lovin’s from the goodest boys, right?

Entering the venue, I took my favorite spot on the far left of the stage, which also seems to be the safest spot for me. Like mentioned in previous articles about The Velvet Underground, the stage is low and open which allows for a really intimate concert experience, but also a scary one for media. The place filled up very quick, the lighting changed and you could feel the excitement in the air in the moment before the opening act took the stage.

Starting the night off was Carlie Hanson,  an eighteen year old indie-pop artist from Wisconsin who’s been in the spotlight for a little over a year since the release of her hit ‘Why Did You Lie‘. Carlie had quite a few fans in the audience singing along with her when she performed this song, and the love seemed to only amplify her already contagious energy.

Taking up every bit of the stage, Carlie put on a fantastic set. She really made a connection with her devoted fans and I felt her gaining some new ones while she sang directly at people and their phones which were held up for live-feed recordings. Aside from Carlie’s spirit on stage, the girl has a stunningly gorgeous voice. Let’s face it, in today’s age of auto-tune, it’s hard to find artists who sound exactly like they do in their studio recordings as they do when they play live. Carlie is one of those rare artists; her voice was identical to her professional published audio work and I definitely became a new fan.

Carlie Hanson puts on a fantastic performance, and I can’t wait to see her again in the future when she headlines her own tour; it’s only a matter of time!

Headlining the night was Jeremy Zucker, a 21-year-old indie-pop singer, songwriter, and producer living between Colorado and New York who started out by creating tracks in his own bedroom back in 2015. When his single titled ‘Bout It‘ from the EP ‘Breathe‘ started to gain a fan base on Spotify later that same year, he earned some serious recognition in the genre and now is headlining tours.

Jeremy Zucker had an interesting stage setup, there was an LED door that really brought some cool lighting and a neat feel to the venue. When the main stage lighting changed and he appeared in front of that cool looking door frame, his fans went wild. There were many shrieks and fangirl “ohmygodohmygodohmygod’s” as Jeremy performed his set. Which was absolutely deserved because he was very talented.

Jeremy had a great voice and a range of talent switching between instruments and vocals that was impressive. At one point he even had the place lit up from fans holding up their cellphones, he really brought out an awesome crowd of people.
