JULIAN TORRES, DEYRA BARRERA, NEZZA, & D-SMOKE DELIVER “MI VOZ”
Amid the growing unrest and devastating impact of ICE raids across the country, a new anthem of unity and resilience emerges with “Mi Voz,” a powerful collaboration from mariachi powerhouses Julian Torres and Deyra Barrera, rising singer NEZZA, and Grammy-nominated rapper D-Smoke out now via EMPIRE.
Produced by Grammy Award-winning Palestinian-American DJ and producer FredWreck, the track blends mariachi, hip hop, and contemporary Latin sounds into a bold celebration of identity and resistance. Rooted in heritage and strength, “Mi Voz” stands as a rallying cry for communities facing injustice while offering healing and hope.
The track was first introduced with a powerful live performance at NEZZA’s recent community fundraiser, NEZZA and Friends, held at the Legendary Roxy in Los Angeles.
“In real time, we are living a tragedy that is plaguing to our community here in LA and around the world,” says Julian Torres. “Music is the outlet where we can express our feelings. We wrote this song to not only uplift our community but as an anthem to empower the youth by telling them you are important, your voice matters, and together we will overcome these obstacles. This is about humanity. We have to look for solutions to the evil that is happening in the world today. The world is grieving. It is my hope that our art will bring some healing to one’s soul. Mi Voz is important because its message is about coming together to fight evil. We will meet the goal to defeat everything that is wrong in the world.”
Grounded in ancestral imagery and generational resilience, “Mi Voz” weaves Spanish and English lyrics that honor the past while calling for unity. From Torres’ declaration, “Mi voz es de todos los ancestros,” to Barrera’s “El pueblo tiene fuerza, no lo pueden detener,” and NEZZA’s reminder “Por sus derechos va luchando… vamos a vencer,” the song channels defiance, hope, and solidarity. Drawing on imagery of the land and its labor, the verses form a narrative of resilience rooted in the earth, lifted by history, and moving toward justice. More than a protest anthem, “Mi Voz” is a hymn of healing, reminding listeners that strength lies in community and in carrying forward the voices of those who came before.
