Låpsley releases fourth studio-album ‘I’M A HURRICANE I’M A WOMAN IN LOVE’
Today sees the release of Låpsley’s long-awaited fourth studio album I’M A HURRICANE I’M A WOMAN IN LOVE, released independently via her own label Her Own Recordings. It comes alongside new single ‘WOMAN LIKE THAT’, a reflective track that touches on themes of jealousy and comparison. It’s accompanied by a Jeanne Buchi-directed video that sees Låpsley navigate a dream where she intimately shares space with her partner’s ex-lover, played out by the incredible choreographer and actress Grace Jabbari.
Speaking on the album, she adds: “I’M A HURRICANE I’M A WOMAN IN LOVE is a statement of passion. There’s nothing more dramatic than the poetry of love lost and gained in the throws of a relationship triangle. A year of my life, documented and reflected; from the red cheeks of new romance, to the bitter sweet aftermath. There is a self determined respect for the journey. Taking strength and inspiration from female warriors from the past along with the personal growth that can only happen through time and experience. This is in many ways, the first chapter exploring the trials of womanhood within my art. A requiem, a seed.”
Born from a period of personal upheaval and inspired by themes of heartache and growth, I’M A HURRICANE I’M A WOMAN IN LOVE marks Holly Låpsley Fletcher’s first album as an entirely independent artist after establishing Her Own Recordings, a label and community that’s 100% artist owned. Quite literally lifting lyrics from her diary entries, the album is a vulnerable and raw glimpse into the life of an artist who uses poetry and songwriting as a means for healing and personal growth. Donning ice-white long hair and three bows in hand, the album artwork sees Holly tapping into the Celtic influences of her mother’s Scottish heritage and making reference to her surname Fletcher (translates to ‘arrow-maker’). With a strong visual landscape that is rooted in both the past and present, it’s an ode to the timeless themes of the record (love, loss, identity) and was the first chance for Låpsley to take full creative control of her output – from visuals to production. It features previous singles ‘HURRICANE’, ‘BETTER’ and ‘CHURCH’, all of which were accompanied by Jeanne Buchi (Björk, FENTY, Milk, etc) directed videos and symbolised the start of a new era for Låpsley as she continued to fight for her artistic independence, and protest against the industry’s harmful power and patriarchal structures. Låpsley also recently announced details of her upcoming tour, where she will be performing the new album to crowds across the UK. Tickets are available HERE, full itinerary below.
Ten years as an artist, and Låpsley has more to reflect on than most. She saw a rapid rise to fame as a teenager, with debut album Long Way Home producing instant-classics in the likes of ‘Hurt Me’ and ‘Operator’. Its followup, Through Water, marked Låpsley’s shift towards a more confident, conscious artist: despite dropping days before the UK’s first lockdown, it proudly asserted Holly’s queer identity and won an award for its engagement with climate issues. In 2023 Låpsley returned with third album Cautionary Tales of Youth, chronicling such turbulent coming-of-age experiences in her most cathartic, eclectic work thus far. Her love of Pop also found a natural outlet as a songwriter for others (Holly secured her first platinum disc for the hit single ‘Out Out’ and has recent collaborations ranging from Barry Can’t Swim or hotly-tipped UK girl-band Say Now to Paloma Faith).
At 28 years old, today Låpsley is that still-rare thing in the mainstream: an artist determined to use their platform to make a difference. Outspoken on topics ranging from politics and the queer kink scene to mental health, sustainability, and a decade of music industry chaos, she approaches her craft and her culture with unusual clarity. It’s the sort of lived-experience that made A Guilty Heart Can Never Rest a compelling but, ultimately, liberating listen, and leaves the door wide open for her new 2025 album, I’M A HURRICANE I’M A WOMAN IN LOVE.
