As night falls on a Tuesday night in downtown Atlanta , an anxious line of fans ranging from teens to the current GEN X, line up around the block of the Center Stage, one of ATL’s most intimate, beloved small venues. Located in the heart of downtown, the venue will allow fans to gather and welcome Tik Tok sensation and Detroit’s hottest retro rock band- Mac Saturn to the stage. Along with opening act- singer, songwriter, guitarist, and London native Billy Tibbals Band, these modern day pop-rock/funk inspired bands provided no shortage of 1970s nostalgia. As if being present during the opening of a time capsule from the year 1975. Vintage multi-piece outfits, worn leather boots, the forever famous “shaggy” haircuts, and the classic “Lennon Shades.’’, as well as some good old fashioned classic guitar riffs.

As I made my way around the room before the first act, I noticed the merch table was overrun with fans eager to meet and support the bands – the true modern day “Band Aids” – a term coined by Kate Hudson in the popular rock film “Almost Famous”. A term used to describe the most devoted and true fans of the band. Billy Tibbals Band opened with their hits such as “Hollywood Baby” and “I Just Want to Have Some Fun” which demonstrated the their true love of an era that has come to pass but is undoubtedly becoming relevant in the present.
As headliner Mac Saturn took the stage, fans rushed ahead to sing along to the bands top hits from their self titled EP Until the Money Runs Out. Undeniably mesmerizing show goers with their edgy, groovy, Motown funk filled tracks such as “Diamonds”, “Plain Clothes Gentlemen”, and “Mr. Cadillac,” which currently has over 2 millions views on Spotify and Apple Music.” Lead singer Carson Macc was nothing short of a modern day Jim Morrison, unforgettably bringing life and electricity to the stage.

The bands vintage sounds and incredible knowledge of glam, has provided a gateway for new, young fans to travel back in time to a place that until now has only truly resonated in the minds and age group of our grandparents. The two bands are currently traveling the US on the Until the Money Runs Out Tour and will conclude the tour on March 31st in Mac Saturns home town of Detroit. As Mac Saturn continues to be adored by their fans for their high energy live performances, the chances of seeing this band become much more popular this coming year are also very high.
