MARIA BECERRA RELEASES “ROMÁNTICA” FEATURING JAY WHEELER
As the countdown continues toward her historic 360° shows at River Plate Stadium —taking place December 12 and 13 before more than 85,000 people per night— Maria Becerra releases “Romántica”, her new collaboration with Jay Wheeler, one of the most influential voices in Puerto Rico’s contemporary sound. The track arrives as the final bonus song to be revealed from QUIMERA, her most ambitious and conceptual album to date.
“Romántica” is a deeply emotional salsa that blends modern elegance with the classic DNA of the genre. The recording took place at Red Dot Studios in Miami, alongside world-class musicians from the global salsa scene —several of them members of Marc Anthony’s and Tony Succar’s orchestras— giving the song an authentic and globally resonant character.
The collaboration between Maria and Jay had been in the works for some time. Both artists were eager to come together on a song that truly represented them, and they found in this salsa the perfect piece. For Maria and her producer Xross, it was essential that the track carried Puerto Rico in its essence, so they brought in old-school musicians and close references deeply connected to the genre’s tradition. The chemistry among everyone in the studio allowed the song to take shape organically.
Much of the lyrics were written by Maria and Xross directly in the studio, letting themselves be guided by the emotion of the moment. Jay Wheeler connected especially with the chorus and pre-chorus, highlighting the sensitivity that Maria’s voice brings to the story told in the song.
The release is accompanied by a visualizer directed by Valentín Herrero, which enhances the song’s romantic atmosphere and visually integrates into QUIMERA’s narrative universe. Valentín also directed nearly all of the album’s visualizers, giving this piece the same aesthetic and emotional coherence that defines the entire project.
