MARÍA ISABEL RELEASES NEW PROJECT EXECUTIVE PRODUCED BY EL GUINCHO
Dominican-American artist María Isabel releases her new project Miss Me Much? via Sony Music Latin. Executive produced by Grammy award-winning producer El Guincho (Charli xcx, Rosalía, FKA twigs), the project embodies a thematic and sonic shift for María. Spearheaded by the dissolution of a heavy relationship that left her feeling rejuvenated, María channels that confidence into a radiant body of work made for the levity of a dancefloor in Santo Domingo, or the streets of New York, which she captures in a new music video for “La Baby Cambió”, also out today. To celebrate the project’s release, María will be joining Univision’s float in Sunday’s Dominican Day Parade in New York.
Miss Me Much? pairs the pointed, diaristic honesty of María’s songwriting with El Guincho’s worldly take on the 2000s-era reggaeton, bachata and hip-hop that María heard blaring out of car windows in Queens growing up. The project harnesses the vulnerability of her early bedroom R&B and forms it into a self-assured and assertive voice to reflect where she’s at in this phase of her life personally, Miss Me Much? is a uniquely reflective and bold body of work. The project’s eight songs speak to who María is growing to be, building off her early work that ruminated on where she’s been.
María first began hinting at the refined and with early singles “Sunset Tower” and “Bien Bien”, a fiery opening taste of what she had in store after a series of recording sessions in Miami with El Guincho to craft the project. Then came the dembow-inflected “Suiza” with an accompanying music video shot in her native Dominican Republic and led to Rolling Stone deeming her an Artist You Need To Know. The project’s final early single and the only song on MMM? primarily in English, “1-800”, was released alongside María’s Galore cover story and retains the tenderness of her 2021 EPs, Stuck in the Sky and its subsequent follow-up i hope you’re very unhappy without me. The two projects collectively captured the attention of Rolling Stone, Vogue, Pigeons & Planes, Wonderland and NYLON, who praised the incisive nature of her songwriting in both English and Spanish.
