MATTIEL SHARES NEW SINGLE & VIDEO “LIGHTHOUSE”
Atlanta-based duo Mattiel unveil their new single “Lighthouse” today, the second offering from their forthcoming third album Georgia Gothic, due March 18th via ATO Records. The track is a refreshingly upbeat message of reassurance and is accompanied by a vibrant new video that finds the duo embarking on a serene escape along the coast. Mattiel first announced Georgia Gothic with lead single “Jeff Goldblum” in November, which follows their two-song single from last year Those Words.
Speaking about the meaning behind “Lighthouse”, Mattiel & Jonah share, “We hope ‘Lighthouse’ is a positive, uplifting song for anyone who hears it. If you’re working toward something and it feels like an uphill battle, that can be a sign that you’re headed in the right direction. And there’s always someone or something to help guide you through it.”
In a sense, Georgia Gothic serves as a re-introduction to the Georgia duo as collaborators, but also as a pair whose tastes, inspirations and mutual adoration of their shared home state of Georgia intertwine with the music they make. With much of it recorded free of distractions and surrounded by northern Georgia forest, the album hones in on Mattiel and Jonah’s collective identity as a duo, working together and challenging one another to develop the sound that feels like home. The result is an album that embodies the otherworldly range and lovable oddity of their state’s musical tapestry, from country guitar and crooning Americana to shimmering pop rock and hints of Atlanta hip-hop’s lasting influence, Georgia Gothic is Mattiel’s ode to home and how it shaped them.
Mattiel will embark on a North American tour in 2022 beginning in February in Washington, DC, with stops in Brooklyn, Chicago, and SXSW before wrapping up April 23rd in Louisville. Mattiel will also tour Europe following their North American run in 2022. Tickets available HERE.
Emerging onto the scene in 2017 with their eponymous debut album, which featured the stand-out tracks “Baby Brother” and “Count Your Blessings,” Mattiel has been praised by Rolling Stone, NPR, The Guardian and more. In 2019, the group released their sophomore album Satis Factory, featuring “Keep The Change” and “Millionaire,” which Rolling Stone described as “irresistibly melancholy.”
