MINI USA and the MINI John Cooper Works Race Team head into the final race with championships in their crosshairs
MINI USA and the MINI John Cooper Works Team head into the last race weekend of the 2023 SRO TC America season at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway with the potential to bring home championships in all three categories – Driver, Manufacturer’s and Team Championhips. This comes following a successful weekend at Sebring International Raceway where the team took home three podiums in a final race weekend before the series championship.
Clay Williams will drive the #60 MINI JCW PRO and can secure this season’s Driver Championship by finishing better than P4 in each of the races this weekend. Williams’ teammate Cristian Perocarpi will drive the #37 MINI JCW PRO, looking to finish ahead of Jeff Ricca in the #78 Genracer/Ricca Autosport Hyundai Elantra N in both races in order to help secure the Manufacturer’s Championship for MINI USA and also the Team Championship for the MINI JCW Race Team and LAP Motorsports. Williams can also help secure these two championship categories by finishing ahead of Ricca in both races. P.J. Groenke will join Williams and Perocarpi this weekend driving the #62 MINI JCW alongside Bruce Myrehn in the #63 MINI JCW, both in the Touring Car A (TCA) class.
“The team has done a great job this season racing hard every weekend to put us in a position to sweep the championship categories at our home track and bring home a few championship trophies,” said Luis Perocarpi, team owner, LAP Motorsports. “It will truly be a battle to the finish that our team is ready to fight all the way to the checkered flag.”
The Brownsburg, Ind. -based LAP Motorsports team, which operates the MINI JCW Team, will be supported this weekend by three qualified MINI Dealer technicians, working alongside the team during practice, qualifying and race days as part of the MINI Technician Race Crew Program. The three technicians are from dealers across the U.S., including Century MINI and MINI of Buffalo. The technicians support the team for the entire weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The race team relies on the skill and knowledge of the technicians that work, day to day on MINI, to bring that expertise to the track.
The team finished last season as the runner up for the Manufacturer’s Championship in both the Touring Car (TC) and Touring Car A (TCA) classes. Clay Williams, driver of the #60 MINI JCW Pro, also finished the 2022 season in 2nd place in the Driver’s Championship in the TC class.
