NOBU WOODS SHARES NEW MIXTAPE CHIMERA

Arriving on the heels of three back-to-back single releases, “YOU”, “DIRTY” and “WHITEOUT”, New York alt-R&B singer, songwriter, and producer Nobu Woods has shared his newest mixtape CHIMERA — out now along with a music video for standout single “THE TIDE”. With this release, Woods enters his career’s most adventurous era to date. Written and produced mostly alone, the album adheres to his featureless trend while introducing a new, darker sound. “THE TIDE” accentuates these themes and finds Nobu at his most personal, highlighted by a West Coast-themed visual set against the backdrop of Los Angeles — and the city’s iconic coastline. As a story-driven album, CHIMERA charts the course of a poisonous relationship and features themes of illusion, lust, and the disillusionment that can soon follow. Its namesake alludes to both the mythical hybrid creature and the dictionary definition of an imaginary ideal (a thing that is hoped or wished for but in fact is illusory or impossible to achieve): twin inspirations that capture the project’s underlying tension. For Woods, the album solidifies his standing as an artist at ease in both world-building and translating his lived experiences into a packaged sound for mass understanding. As he enters this new space, he remains a strong voice dedicated to expanding the R&B genre — and returning it to its roots.

After a string of pandemic-era independent singles, Woods dropped his debut album IRIS in 2022 and its follow-up MIDNIGHT MOTIONS a year later, leading to a partnership with Warner Records in 2024. That same year, he released UNTL, a nine-song mixtape that marked his major-label debut, bringing his diaristic, self-contained sound to the forefront of the newest generation of R&B pushers. Entirely self-produced and featureless, Woods’ music is a deeply personal effort, with each album treated as a chapter in his life, framed by real experiences woven into every song. Essentially all of his recorded and produced work still comes from his bedroom studio, reinforcing the autobiographical nature of his projects.
