NONAME RELEASES NEW SINGLE FROM UPCOMING MIXTAPE CARTOON RADIO
Noname shares a new single, “Squatter” ft. DRAM, marking the second taste from Chicago rapper, poet, and activist’s forthcoming project, Cartoon Radio, close to a year after sharing its lead single “Hundred Acres.” On the new track, Noname tells a story about the last time she went on tour, where a squatter moved into her house while she was abroad, and she had to call a group of her friends to remove them.
The single arrives ahead of her embarking on her 20-date North American tour this month in celebration of the ten-year anniversary of her debut mixtape Telefone. Due to high demand and shows selling out shortly after announcement, Noname added additional dates to the tour, including new shows in New York City, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Chicago. In addition to the tour, Noname will be headlining Pitchfork’s Music Festival in London this November. Her upcoming mixtape, Cartoon Radio, will be the first release since her critically acclaimed third album, Sundial, from 2023.
Beyond her artistry, Noname has continued to expand her community-focused work through the Noname Book Club, which now hosts in-person meetings in 38 cities across Africa, the United States, and the global diaspora. Hailed by Rolling Stone as one of the best rappers alive and recognized by The New York Times as one of the most important voices of her generation, Noname’s artistry sits at the intersection of sharp lyricism, political consciousness, and jazz-inflected production. Her sound and message have drawn comparisons to legendary predecessors like Erykah Badu, Nina Simone, and Lauryn Hill, yet her voice remains unmistakably her own.
In addition to performing sold-out shows worldwide, she’s also notably performed on Saturday Night Live as well as The Tonight Show and The Late Show multiple times, along with being one of the few artists ever to perform on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert twice. Her latest album, Sundial, released in the summer of 2023, was heralded by everyone from The New Yorker to Pitchfork as a timely and vital body of work, following 2016’s Telefone and 2018’s Room 25, both of which received universal acclaim.
