Grace & Moji: A Love Story for the Ages
Introducing the highly anticipated single, “Our Love,” from the indie/pop duo Grace & Moji. This remarkable introduction showcases the duo’s chemistry and songwriting prowess, reminiscent of 2000s indie bands such as Flaming Lips, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, and The National, while infusing fresh sounds evocative of Kacey Musgraves and Harry Styles.
“Our Love” is an anthem that beautifully encapsulates the profound bond between Grace Hong and Martin Wave, exploring their journey of personal growth, healing, and the complexities of their relationship. This heartfelt and quirky song delves into the depths of their love, ultimately leading to a place of beauty, harmony, understanding, and humor.
“This project is the most personal and honest one I’ve ever worked on. It has broadened my perspective on the creative process and the significance of authenticity while inviting the world to witness.”
– Martin Wave
The story of Grace & Moji unfolds as serendipitously as their music. Meeting just three months before the start of the pandemic, they decided to get married on the first day of lockdown, securing one of the last marriage certificates in the city of Los Angeles and the subsequent period of confinement provided an opportunity to deepen their connection and embark on a profound exploration of their identities and creative endeavors.
“Getting married quickly under unusual circumstances forced us to confront aspects within ourselves. We feel fortunate to have cultivated a safe space for exploring unconscious dynamics in our relationship. We hope our journey inspires couples to communicate more honestly.”
– Grace Hong
The making of “Our Love” is a testament to the artistic synergy between Grace & Moji, using tensions in their marriage as a catalyst for deeper understanding. Late nights in their Silverlake home studio were filled with laughter, shared stories, and an unwavering sense of trust, translating into the song’s authentic and heartfelt essence. “Our Love” stands as a testament to the transformative nature of love and the beauty that can emerge from a harmonious partnership.

Grace & Moji does their intertwined connection tremendous justice on the hazy home movie fuzz of “Our Love.” The voyeuristic aspect of the video feels genuine, as these have a found footage quality. A pleasant intermingling between the fuzzed-out VHS imagery alongside the precise, crisp moments gives the video a sense of resolution. Set in the stunningly beautiful Topanga, CA, the video is co-directed by Sam Friedman alongside Grace & Moji. Sam is also responsible for the nostalgic photography that adorns many frames. Much of the color has its personality, provided by RKM Studios, to give it both the crisp finish and that sense of timelessness.
The rest of the scenery emerges from the first glimmer of that retro VHS look. A wide variety of terrains, from spacious fluffy clouds to waves crashing on the shore, are provided. As they navigate the vast world, the struggle they share is shown with unfiltered honesty. With this dream-like state, the music video is like a series of memories flooding the senses. Grace and Moji appear in domestic scenes involving sleepy days at home, vacations, hot air ballooning, and the feeling of discovery. They imply a sense of accomplishment by juxtaposing explicit imagery with grainier clips. Despite all the struggles and hardships, they experienced together, they could make it to the other side, towards the dreamy golden field they inhabit together, embracing warmly.
