Ricardo Arjona, one of Spanish-language music’s greatest singer-songwriters, releases SECO today, his eighteenth studio album. Through 12 songs, Arjona explores the past, present, and future with unprecedented vulnerability. SECO is now available on all digital platforms.

The album emerged amid uncertainty following two spinal surgeries, which led Arjona to contemplate retiring from live performances. During his recovery, confined between a bed and a wheelchair, he reconnected with his roots and the boy he once was—nicknamed Seco (meaning “thin”) due to his tall, slender frame.

Through an emotional, contemplative, and creative journey, Arjona revisited his memories while returning to his first guitar. The result is a collection of 12 songs that he believes could make SECO the most significant album of his career.

“This album isn’t just music; it’s a piece of my life. SECO represents that boy who dreamed of writing songs while running by the stream. Today, I invite everyone to join me on this journey and find a part of themselves in each song. Music has the magical power to unite us in our solitude and joy,” the artist explained.

“Mujer” leads the project as its focus track, celebrating women’s resilience and power throughout different life stages. The song draws inspiration from his mother, aunts, the women who shaped his life, and his daughter, acclaimed actress Adria Arjona.

“It tells the story of a woman who knows how to stand her ground and claim her rightful place,” Arjona revealed in an innovative AI-conducted interview published on his YouTube channel. “‘Mujer’ follows a girl’s journey as she builds strength through life’s typical experiences, developing a personality that makes her the master of her own path.”

“Barcelona” is SECO’s first track, a true story about a fleeting romance Arjona experienced in the Spanish city during his youth. “If my surgery hadn’t been in Barcelona, I probably would have never written this song,” he reflects.

“I lived in Port Lligat for a while, drawn there by Dalí’s ghost. I visited his house, fascinated by his history and work, and fell in love with the place. A brief love story unfolded there, which I now recreate in this song. What started as a creative spark during my crisis has surprisingly become a favorite among those who’ve heard of the project,” Arjona adds.

Midway through this emotional journey, Arjona surprises with “Motel Revolución,” a provocative narrative exploring contemporary relationships’ contradictions through a silent witness: a motel observing the secret romantic encounter of a seemingly unreachable, conservative woman.

The album also features the trilogy of singles Arjona released in November: “Nirvana,” “Todo Termina,” and “Despacio Que Hay Prisa.”

Since the release of its first singles, SECO has demonstrated the power of independent music. Videos like “Despacio Que Hay Prisa” have exceeded 20 million views on YouTube, reinforcing Arjona’s deep connection with his global audience.
